I'm not big on making a bunch of New Years resolutions, but late winter always seems like a good time to reflect on what I might like to do fishing that I haven't done before, or what I want to do more of that I started last year, etc.

So here's some things I'd like to do this year:

  • Finish the AOTY2019 wrap-up post ;D Sorry this has taken so long! I will do it today, I promise!
  • Do more crabbing than last year (so, any crabbing)
  • Catch a bigger carp than Jed
  • Do more Tenkara fishing (maybe from a SUP?)
  • Catch my first shark
  • Catch an AOTY fish on a SUP
  • Put out 10 videos
  • Average 160pts in AOTY
  • Catch a new freshwater species (I'm looking at you, lake trout)
  • Fish with my NWKA friends more

A lot of times when I go fishing I enjoy the solitude, but I really would enjoy spending a bit more time with some of the great people I've gotten to know here. Thank you for your friendship even though I don't meet up very often.

What do you want to do this year?

Awesome goals Capt and I think you can achieve most of them(maybe not the carp thing) hahaha. Come over for the BCS and you would have a good chance ;) What kind of shark are you after? I got my first Dogfish last year. It was a pretty fun day and I want to go back and do it again. We went out by Hoodsport for those. Lake trout is very doable.

My goals for 2020 include trying to fourpete on second place in the AOTY Much harder than actually winning    I would like to try for a true 200 point average with 10 fish over 200 pts. That would be neat. Fishing more with friends and making new ones is always a goal for every year.

Good luck and hope to see you on the water.

It's on! Longest carp, from the kayak, for bragging rights.

I am 100% go for BCS. I have my site reserved and everything. I'll be heading there Thursday and back Sunday.

I'm guessing dogfish shark will be my first but I'm not against targeting some other species.

YES! Stoked to hear that. There's a few guys showing up early to prefish and I'll be out too. We can hit the main channel if the wind is light. I'll try to post up some intel as the event nears.

-spend more time catching shellfish (I love shellfish)
-spend more time in the mountains (maybe harvest an elk)
-volunteer at at least one HOW event
-an upgrade on the GOAT board would be cool
-catch albacore from a ski

Catch a @!%&! steelhead.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I would like to make it to more meet-ups and Tournaments.  I enjoy the camaraderie of fishing and hanging out with others but I generally can only make it to one or two a year but with the way things are going this year I'll be lucky to make that many  :'(

I would also like to talk my wife into joining me out on the salt this year, even if its just to peddle around a little.  She keeps talking about how cool it'd be to see a whale up close.  I really don't want to put a fishing pole in her hand out there because she out-fishes me all the time and I'd never hear the end of it.  >:(

It's not humiliating, it's building character! (I know, trust me.)

I’m still figuring out what exactly I want to aim for in my 2020 fishing adventures. 2019 was a great year for me: landed PB winter steelhead (16 pounds) and Chinook (between 35-38 pounds). A few hanging things that come to mind include:

- Land a double-digit summer steelhead (fingers crossed that this year’s return follows what is shaping up to be a great winter run, the 2019 run sucked)
- Land a mid-teens or higher coho that I can keep (I’ve released a few brute wilds the last few years, would be great to bonk a 15+ pound hatchery fish or get a big wild out of a coastal lake)
- Land a halibut over 40”, CA or Pacific (I much prefer fishing for CA halibut, but it’d be easier to break 40” with a Pac)

I’ll probably come up with others as the year goes on, depending on whatever conditions present themselves over the course of the year. It’d be real cool to catch some squid on the kayak!
