Launched with clayman  at about? 9. Few hours later heard another kayaker on the radio announcing he was inbound, never knew there was  another till then, thought maybe that was u drifter2007. I barely scratched out a limit of blacks and lings. Was awesome getting out again, so glad I changed my mind,  again, to go. Was chilly with offshore breeze. Hope to do again in the morning. Clayman was still working it when I left, wonder how he ended up doing?

It was nice to get out on the salt for the first time in 2020! Conditions were about what I expected: 4-5 foot swell with a little wind chop early, but it laid down as the morning went on. Black rockfish bit great...almost too great. They kept eating all my big lingcod baits  ::). Took me a while to find the better lings. Turns out they were up shallow: 20-30 FOW. I came away with a limit of blacks and two lings clocking in at 29 and 28 inches apiece. Dampainter had his limit well before me.

I went out for a while, probably me you heard heading in about 11.
Wind was cold, frost on the dock when I left.
Threw back three short lings and a couple nice blacks, freezer didn't need them.
Kept this Petrale Sole for dinner though.

Thanks for the report. I am hoping to be to Newport at 8 to try to get a couple more sponsors for the AOTY, then head up to Depoe around 9. Low tide is 740, might as well let it ride a little, and the temp also.

Nice sand sole! The free dorsal rays near the head are the telltale sign it's a sand and not a petrale.

Nice i am wanting to target these and that will help in identifying future fish.

Hope to chase flatfish with you soon Clayman.  Still have never been successful targeting them the 1-2 times i tried at Depoe.

For sure man. Last year's flatfish bite sucked out of Depoe, by the time salmon season rolled around I'd basically given up on them. Seeing that Monkeyfist got one yesterday, I regret not trying for them, but I took too long trying to find the lings and by the time I got my second keeper, I was ready to head in.

I was pretty surprised when I saw what it was, even though I thought it was something else.
I tried a couple times last year to find some flat fish, west & southwest of the whistle buoy, without success.
This fish was in about 60 fow about 500 yards north of the channel.
If the forecast holds next Weds to Fri looks good.
