Mojo, please call the viral infection by its name, COVID-19, instead of the stupid attempts at humor that others (including POTUS, unfortunately) have made up. Using the other names not only helps to inflame tensions with Asians who have had absolutely nothing to do with it, but it diminishes the seriousness of this virus.  It is NOT a variety of flu, it is something new and we all need to not make a joke of the situation.  Please.
Then why don’t we continue calling it what it started as “Corona” virus?

Edit better put this up or else!

This disease has been called COVID-19 from the start.  The "C" stands for Corona, 19 for 2019. By calling it by the full acronym you are speaking specifically to this current Corona virus and the symptoms it causes.

Ok the fish catching threads should be real interstellar if we’re allowed to fish again, I expect to see several post with the fish id’d by its scientific name!  >:D
Let’s drop back a little without googling it, what’s the scientific definition of the “Swine” flu? Know a few pig farms that didn’t like that one as well as LEO. You guys want me to keep you updated on this area for fishing, or just complain about my off sense of humor? I’m a disabled retired GARBAGE man, grew up working and call shit as I see it.

The real name of this disease is "SARS-CoV-2".  The 2013 SARS outbreak was really "SARS-CoV".  Both are/were caused by their own novel strain of coronavirus, with SARS-CoV (2013) being far less virulent.

Mojo, in the case of the "Swine flu", it was confined to pigs/hogs until it jumped to humans, so we shouldn't worry too much about offending pigs, it WAS their fault.  Calling it the "Kung flu" or the "Chinese flu" isn't the same as inciting resentment against Asians as far as I'm concerned, but it's simply not accurate, and I don't care for inaccuracy or over-simplification (as we should all know about me by now).  Calling it COVID-19 instead of SARS-CoV-2 is about as far as I'm able to go.

BTW, a new fact emerging from data gathered over the past week is that up to one fifth (20%) of those infected who range in age from 20 to 44 require hospitalization.  It's not just Grandma's and Grandpa's...

Not to downplay it, but I believe that the statistic is '20% of the confirmed cases in that range.' There are thousands of people walking around out there right now that have no clue they are infected and are shedding virus which would technically make the overall infection rate higher, but percentage requiring hospitalization lower.   My comment still does not change the fact that it is those walking around shedding the virus that are going to kill grandma, grandpa, and immuno-compromised people.  If you can stay at home, I encourage it. Personally, I wish I could do my job from home, but I can't.  But I do take my temperature about 5 times a day to get an early warning of symptoms and avoid contact with people as best as I can.

Fair enough - I should have said "one in five (20%) of the confirmed cases" since we've not even started to scratch the surface of wide-spread testing.

Over-simplification jumped-up and bit me in the butt again!  You see this, Mojo?

Thanks for clarifying that.

So your telling me that no one from the coast has visited our dirty valley since all this has occurred and that the orders are going to cure the world of this disease. I wish that it were true that the shelter in place is going to stop this thing but it won't and they don't have anything better because we didn't have the ability to test for it fast enough. Just a matter of time until this thing really explodes. The truth is hard to swallow but this C-19 will make it to your community no matter what you do now.

The Shelter In Place orders are not, and have never been, intended to *stop* the virus.  They are intended to slow down the rate of spread so the medical systems can cope with the numbers of infections requiring hospitalization.  Far too late to prevent the spread, this is a mitigation tactic.  That is the entire point of "flatten the curve", to spread the numbers out across a longer period so the peak stays below capacity. If people cooperate. And we're lucky.
