Well this is terrifying:

https://www.northcoastjournal.com/NewsBlog/archives/2020/08/29/kayaker-shares-harrowing-shark-scare

Another kayak shark attack in Northern CA. Another yellow hobie... I know it's a sample size of 2, but do sharks like yellow boats? Maybe it's the same shark? This time the guy didn't have any fish bleeding in the water. I thought it was just another article about this attack:

https://kymkemp.com/2020/05/25/kayaker-relates-details-of-terrifying-shark-attack-in-shelter-cove-this-morning/

but doesn't look like it to me.

Two different attacks.  One was Mike Thalmeier, the other Dave Alexander.  Same place, may or may not be the same shark.  Probably not, reports of Dave's shark were much smaller than Mike's.  Dave's boat went to DFW yesterday for sample collection and DNA analysis.  We will find out soon enough.

I too have heard anecdotes that sharks prefer yellow... Until I see some persuasive stats, I'm not really buying it.

Either way, you'll always find me in a yellow or seagrass green kayak. I'm more visible to other boaters, and if something goes really wrong and a chopper ends up looking for me, yellow or seagrass green is going to 'pop' the most.

Haha, they've been rumored to like the yellow ones at least since I started in this sport back in CA in the 00s.

Can you guys please not show these articles to my wife?!  ;D

I don't know anything about the attacks (besides what I just read in those 2 stories) and have never fished the area, but I would be really surprised if it wasn't the same shark. People are notoriously bad at estimating particulars like length in stressful situations and, from the little I understand, this is unusual behavior for a white shark.

I think its pretty unlikely actually.  The first shark was estimated at 4,000 lbs.  The second one isn't even half that.  I know the second guys and trust their estimations.  The size of the first one was determined by DFW after analyzing the kayak.  They are doing the second kayak now and we should know in the next couple days if it was the same or not, but I doubt it was .

Ah, well that's good info but bad news. Appreciate it... ? No, seriously, thank you.

A light blue is a good choice too.

Thank you for posting that! I had that in my memory but couldn't remember where I'd read/heard it or if I made it up trying to justify not getting my first choice of colors for my Revo  ;D

Thanks for the share.  Awareness is important as is proper preparation (no yellow kayaks for me).  Also, my boss has a shark phobia and is a casual kayaker (only freshwater).  Its fun to forward
