I was thinking of fishing below the falls next week, does anyone know how crowded it's been there, as of late?
I'd rather not try and compete with a bunch of power boats .....
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

I may be wrong, but I think the Willamette only has a spring salmon run.
Fall is all about the Columbia and coastal bays/rivers.

This is useful to learn when the runs are. Then couple this with knowledge of the regulations.

Coho are running in the Willamette right now, and apparently the fish ladder at the falls is being worked on. I have no experience with this, but can only assume the fish are stacking up below the falls. Seems like it might make for good fishin....

Then go fishing.  We can't hold your hand.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I don't think the fish ladder is closed, but the counting window is out of operation.

There absolutely is a fall salmon run for coho. It is modest, but real.
Let's eat, Grandma !

So, LOTS of salmon between the launch ramp and the falls!
Rolling and jumping everywhere, constantly taunting.
Finder showed em all stacked up in the deeper holes.
Only a few other boats on the water, however, it seemed the only one capable of catching the elusive fish, was the big, out of place, bull sea lion.
I bounced bait, cast n trolled spinners and plugs, but no love.
After trying everything in my arsenal, I relocated above the falls and managed to get a few decent smallies.
Better than bein skunked!

years past I have had luck trolling and casting spinners at the mouth of the Tualatin 100 yards from the ramp. May head out there as it is about 3 miles away

I have never been skunked bass fishing the area around 10th st landing, really like fishing up around the narrows, and have caught plenty within sight of the launch ramp. You likely won't have any luck for salmon though, as the fish ladder is currently being repaired. Best of luck to you though!

UPDATE: Willamette Falls fishway back in action after repairs
Fish counting window
The Willamette Falls fishway, including fish ladders, reopened yesterday. Fish are again able to pass through the fishway.

Hundreds of coho and Chinook have already passed by the counting window (see photos) and ODFW staff are reviewing video files to update the count now.  Online fish counts should be updated late this week.

The entire project is expected to be completed by Oct. 9.

For more information on this project please visit https://www.dfw.state.or.us/news/2020/09_Sep/091820b.asp

Fish away.
