I've yet to catch any on my own, only with a guide. Gotta break the curse!
Fished a few different rivers last Fri in the rain, caught some nice cutties, saw one fat steelhead, but that was it...
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Water level predictions are looking better soon. I'm hoping to get out on the bank. Been too cooped up this year.

There are a few around, but it's still really early. I stuck my first of the season last Thursday, wild buck with war paint clocking in at 35 inches. He took a jig under a bobber. Gone a couple more times since then for nada except zombie salmon.

It's easy to burn out on steelhead by fishing hard in December. Be careful not to fall into that trap, a lot of people do. It gets much, much better in February and often peaks in March. Just sayin  8).

Mind if I ask what river?
I've heard of a few in reports, and saw a nice one last Fri.
Feelin super cooped up lately, and don't burn out easy.
If you're ever goin, n don't mind company, please let me know.
Thanks for the post!

Thanks! It's a small coastal river...that's about as specific as I'll be with it here  ;).

I won't be putting in much effort in December, as it's generally a scratch bite on the systems I fish compared to what's to come (at least for wilds and brood stock program fish). The early-returning traditional hatchery fish can be an exception this time of year, but the crowding on the rivers that still raise that strain is not my thing. If you know of or come across a solid December option for early-returning winters that isn't already known by hundreds of other anglers, you'll want to keep it on the D/L.

Are there restrictions from fishing from a kayak in those locations where the guys are lining the banks?  Or is it just not really navigable waters?  I am trying to get an understanding of the nuances of the PNW prior to my arrival in March 2021 so I will be asking dumb questions.   :) :) 8) 8)

Thank you all for any kindness provided in the the Pacific Northwest.

Are there restrictions

WA has the most complicated sport fishing regulations in the US I'd imagine, they also change drastically year-to-year. I wouldn't trust anything anyone says online about them and just read the pamphlet or download the mobile application.

To add to that, when planning,  check it daily.  What works on Monday, might get you a ticket on Wednesday.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

Very nice.  I wouldn't have thought a summer run would be tempted by that style of plug.  I should know by now not to be suprised at what they will hit.

I've had some multi species days on the LJ hotlips express, steelhead, smallmouth, and walleye.

Deciphering the mobile app was what caused me to ask the question!   😂 😂.  I have since figured it out.

For a guy like me that goes out every weekend and will go 200 miles in any direction, I was getting annoyed.  Not necessarily frustrated.  Also, there is something I try not to do.  That is overthink it.

I’m putting locations on my calendar and if weather is allowing, I’m going!  😂
