We’re a go for tomorrow meet behind the fish cleaning  station in Garibaldi around 0900. Crabbing  and rockfish is the plan. The bay looked nice and clear today.

Edit: there will be several experience yakers and so far one newbie so if any of the other newbies got their immersion gear and want to join feel free. It will be 44 for a high so immersion gear is a must have.

it was a great day on the water. Fantastic company. The striped perch were HUNGRY! We caught several dozen, many of which were of trophy quality. Good Times! Rockfishing was a little slow, but we caught enough for everyone to go home with some fish. A couple of them were really nice, including a 20" 5#+ piggie that corey caught. Several under-lings and a couple of dinky cabbies were caught and released. A dozen or so kelp greenling were caught, a few of which were bigger than 15". Not sure how many crabs the boys kept. We had amazing weather, light currents, virtually no wind most of the day. Was a little too sunny, definitely hurt the Rockfishing. Cant wait for the next outing with this group of guys.

sorry, only pic it will let me attach. For some reason, this one is only 4mb, all the others are over 8mb. All taken with same phone at the same settings. Weird. Wont let me post pics, it says "file too large or upload to slow.".

It was the calmest I had ever seen it. Out in kayak almost 7 hours, longest I’d ever been out. Striped perch one the more beautiful fish of the NW sea.  Also very strong fighter.  Meat firmer than surf perch.  Tasted good sautéed in chilly oil, ginger, green onion, soy sauce served over rice.

Rudy,

Glad to hear first hand about the stripes' meat. I had heard rumors they were firmer than redtails, nice to see those rumors confirmed. Cant wait to get back out there and hammer some more. I think it will be quite difficult in windier conditions with a paddle yak, but i'll figure it out! Ill anchor up in the sand and cast to em if i need too!  Lets get the group together again soon!

Thanks for the report, guys.  It's always great to hear the report when the kayak crew gets together.

My wife and I hiked to the south jetty on Saturday - we found about 35 corkies washed up on the beach that has been pushed out of the bay during the last king tide.  It was fun finding the little 'treasures' along the debris line.  Unfortunately, too, mixed with the lost fishing gear was also real trash.  We ended up hiking out about 20 lbs of plastic and there was much more where that came from.  There was also an abandoned green suzuki 4x4 on the beach which had obviously spent the night on the beach and gotten wet during the morning's high tide.  It was sunk to the rear axle when we arrived around noon.  I hope they got that thing removed before the gas and oil made it's way into the ocean.  Sad - people are idiots.

I also broke off what I think was a lingcod  while fishing from shore just before low slack.

Question about the striped perch - where are you catching them? Jetty or pilings, or where?

Cheers!

I was up there about 3:30pm.  It was being towed out then so it's gone.
