Hi there!

Back when we lived in Northern CA (we moved in 2007), my husband did lots of kayak fishing. He still does here in MT, but it is a lot less and obviously the ocean is too far away for the type of day trips he used to do.

I'm trying to work out a trip to the Northern Oregon Coast for Spring Break in mid-March. He'd really like to do some fishing for Rock Fish (is it open in March???). I'd like to take our two kids to explore tide pools and other interesting things. I'm hoping for some suggestions that include an easy beach to launch from that have some people pretty regularly (for safety). I'm also searching for a buddy who maybe would like to fish with him.

We're planning on using a VRBO.

All suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!
Ashley

PS - A little support here to make me look like a great wife would be appreciated! Hey, I already joined a fishing forum and I have a deadly allergy to finned fish.

Fishing is open year round, Tillamook bay is a backup for Pacific City and Depot Bay is a little farther south. Just a matter of timing did the ocean. Tillamook Bay is dependent on tide direction. I have two native propels but currently no rig to pull my 3/4 ton truck bed trailer with.

I used Yaquina Bay Charters last fall, they are out of Newport, excellent experience and lots to do with the kids in the area (aquarium, light house hikes, great beaches, seals/sea lions, etc).  I know that they are a little further south than you wanted, but we always have a great time there.

Good luck!!

The coast is unpredictable at any time of year, so have a lake or a river as a backup plan and hope for a day without thunderstorms or gale-force winds.

Even the best of all possible wives can't control the weather, but I'll be rooting for you.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
