The Kokanee Kid just dropped a seminar on advanced Kokanee Fishing.  It's boat based tutorial but has some universally applicable advice.



What little I know, I've learned from talking to Jeremy Jahn.  Here are my results from last Saturday.  A day when most power boats were having a hard time scratching out a couple of fish.

Half of the herring I pulled out of Newport could have swallowed half of those Kokes whole. Not a real great motivational/promotion piece to buy a WA license for us folks south of the border. On the other hand, pink meat > white meat, except for sweet sweet halibut.

Nice catch!

The lLwis system can put out some good sized fish.  A limit of average Merwin kokes can get you 3lb of fillets easily. Yale a bit less but they are easier to catch.   I enjoy it, can be constant catching, get a good workout with the amount of trolling to do and the wind usually kicks up in the afternoon so I can sail the Island after I am done fishing.

A little less versatile to cook with than say a thick piece of salmon, but I will skin them and chop to make burgers/patties, sautee with sauce, shred for pasta.

Oregon has plenty of kokanee opportunities.  Jeremy talks a lot about Diamond Odell Lake and Detroit Res. in this video.  Both in Oregon.

And Timothy, but timothy is very stunted and most are only 6-7"/large herring sized.  You can keep 25 though so I have wondered if they would be worth it if you just gutted them and fried whole like you would a bait fish.
