I am very lucky to be going to Iceland this Sept.
Of course, I plan on fishing there!
Most bodies of water are fly gear only, to the best of my knowledge.
Over the years, I have dabbled in fly fishing, but primarily use spinning and bait casting gear.
I hope to be targeting Atlantic salmon and big browns.
What weight class rod is recommended, and how heavy of a tippit/tapered leader?
Any particularly deadly flies I should buy for these waters?
Thanks in advance for any info/advice!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

I would get a hold of The Fly Shop in Redding Cali.. They should be able to help you on this one.

I will contact the shop, thank you!

The salt species don't seem too exciting, mostly cod, eels n such.

Considering Iceland has a lake with a population of isolated ice age brown trout, some say the biggest in the world, I kinda have to try for them, at least a bit

And of course, I really should get into fly fishing more, if for no other reason, so I can win a bunch of gear after I sign up for next year's AOTY!!!

I hear there may be some lava trout in the river from Fagradjallshraun down to Natthagi Valley.  Not sure if they would respond to flies, though.

(Sorry not sorry… <GRIN>. If I were going up there, fishing is NOT how I’d be spending my time!)

Limited entry on most rivers that support searun Browns or Atlantics. Its very difficult to gain access to rivers without hiring a local guide from what I've been told.

I probably will be getting a guide for one day.
Lava trout? You'll have to expound on those a bit.....
