Anybody out there familiar enough with these two kayaks to compare and contrast?  Primarily fishing tidewater for salmon.

Comparing specs for the two boats, it looks like they're suited for different styles of fishing... The OT, at ~13' long, 36" wide, and ~100lbs, looks like it'd be best suited on a pond or small lake. I imagine it'd take a lot of energy to cover distance with no or favorable currents, and it'd be an absolute bear going against the current. The OK on the other hand (~13' long, 29" wide, ~80lbs) sounds super nimble in comparison, and for that reason, seems like it'd be much more at home going after tidewater salmon.

I am biased: my two favorite paddle fishing kayaks were made by OK -- a Malibu 2XL and a Zest Two EXP. But, even ignoring brand, I think the above specs speak for themselves.

I know nothing about the Old Town Sportsman BigWater, except the specifications say they weigh 86 pounds, fully assembled, not 100 pounds.  Perhaps someone with practical experience with the BigWater will have more to say.

I own two Ocean Kayak Trident 13's.  I've owned a Hobie Revolution 13 and a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120.  In my limited experience with other kayaks, I think the Trident 13 is the best fishing kayak on the market today, hands down.

However, I fish with someone who uses an older Ocean Kayak Predator Big Game.  Its specifications are reasonably comparable to those of the BigWater (it weighs less).  I'm a good paddler and I hate to admit how often I need to paddle hard to keep up, even crossing a turbulent section of ocean, in strong winds, and against a goodly tidal exchange.

As always, it's best to try each of them and see which suits how you want to use it.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

If you are paddling the OK Trident 13 would be my choice. The Bigwater 132 comes in a pedal version but I would not want to paddle it personally. It far too heavy and you are high above the water forcing a steep paddling angle. You are much lower on the in the Trident, it will paddle easier, and feel more stable as well.

Looks like different sites list different weights. OT website has 86, Moosejaw has 96.... I'd put more 'weight' on the OT website. Good catch, thanks!
