I plan to be there. Red Toyota truck with black canopy. Cobra Fish and Dive. Mind if I ask how you're rigging? I'm new to ocean trolling for salmon. I've got a flasher rig set up. Will a spinner or flat fish work? Any advice would be appreciated.

Last time I was out, the coho seemed to hit just about anything. They are on the surface, don't need much, or probably any weight. Used triangle flashers, and Brad's cut plugs. I know guys have been catching without any sort of flasher. Have seen em caught on spinners, swimbaits, herring.....just use what ya got, and are comfortable with. Go deeper, like 30-50' on line counter for a shot at chinook.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Thanks. That's good information and gives me a much  clearer idea what to expect. I won't sweat not having organic bait. Hope to see you therej.

I just looked at the Cape Kiwanda beach cam.
Not so much fun when the vis is 50 yards.
Stay safe out there.

What you could not see on the webcam due to the fog where the much higher than expected swells....Ocean conditions in hindsight did not warrant getting up at 2:45 am:-( Probably the most difficult ocean conditions i have ever been out in.  Everyone made it out OK though.

Magic seaweed does show the secondary swells at 3 ft every 4 sec at 9 am, coming from the north. Pretty short period.  Looking at the rest of the predictions, I would have been right there with you if I was at the coast this week.  The fog is always a crap shoot.

The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Yes on gnarly conditions, but after giving up on trolling, managed to land 5 lingcod and 2 good sized rockfish. The Ling I kept was 7 lbs. The rock fish were 4lb and 3 lbs. So really fun day despite scary condition.

One good thing about yesterday was that, being protected behind the cape, the landings were easy.  (Except of course when you couldn’t see the shore in the fog!)
