My PTO request is pending at work right now, I’ll be there for my first beach launch if approved.

Edit: PTO request was approved. I’ll be out there in a red outback and silver F150. Going after salmon and rockfish. I’m toying with bringing the crab trap but I’ll probably leave it because it’s my first beach launch.

I will most likely be there.

Asully~ If the forecast holds true, you should have no problem launching at all.
I'll be bringing my trap, if I make it there.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

looking at the camera the beach is calm today and is only supposed to get calmer through Thursday so I plan on brining a trap.  I have never crabbed there but I recall the advice is 60ft-ish of water and south of the rock? I will be in a blue compass and grey Subaru Ascent. Most likely parking up top and hiking down.

I might bring it, my worry is getting it stowed/unstowed off the rear of the kayak out in the ocean more than anything. I’ve been playing with some ideas in my head. I’ve learned my ideas vs reality don’t always align and/or go as planned. I’ve got a Hobie H-Crate and was thinking about using those stiff rubber twist ties or a giant carabiner to latch it to the side of the crate. I’ll have a net/rod sticking up out of the crate too….open to other ideas.

Quite a few guys, including myself, put their traps on top of their front hatch. I bungee mine down, but many don't even do that. They stay put better than you might think.

They are for sure harder to reach when behind you. Also, if at all possible, I'd recommend strapping your rods and net down horizontally for launch and landing, though I really doubt you'll have any issues Thurs.

Last Monday, I dropped my trap in 35-40’ of water, about 1/2 mile south of where I launched.  Ended up with 9 keepers, out of 13 or 14 total.
All of the ones I kept were over 6”; a few were huge.
I used salmon scraps from my last ocean coho trip for bait.

Since this will be my first time out there I am just looking for general directions on where to go. From my understanding crabbing is about 1/2 mile south of the launch in about ~40-60' of water, rockfish on the east side or anywhere around the rock? and coho/chinook past the rock straight out from the launch? I know there will be other dory's and kayaks out there but I am just trying to gain a general idea of where I need to be to plan for tomorrow. I plan on being on the beach around 6:15-6:30ish, hope to see a few of you out there.

There is a reef that extends N. and slightly east from the rock that is prime for bottom fish without having to go far.  I believe there are some other reefs farther north too.  SOunds like salmon have been found near the rock lately, but also sounds like they could really be anywhere.  In my limited experience, Coho have been higher in the water column (top 20ish feet)

Attaching a picture showing the general structure out there. I’m planning to get out there with another guy tomorrow, launching around 6:30. Will be dropping a few pots then trolling a bit before switching to bottom fish.

I’ll be monitoring channel 69 in case anyone gets stuck in good and wants to share notes on where the coho are at.  ;D

Also, here’s a nice visual bag guide: https://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/finfish/docs/what_can_i_keep.pdf

Decent day yesterday, no limits, but got a chunky 28" Coho and a monster 27" cabby for the efforts, plus a legal-ling and a decent size rockfish.  5 keeper crab to top it off.  Wind chop made it a bit rougher than expected, but overall nice day.  It was really noticeable for the hour or so when the wind dropped out completely.

There were far more people there (Dorys and Kayaks) than I ever imagined. I made it out and back in with no issues. Decided to leave the crab trap on shore and just figure out the launching/fishing thing before I add another piece to the puzzle. I fished north of the rock most of the day. But ended with 4 black bass, 1 cabezon. Released 4 smaller blacks, 1 cabezon and shorter ling which I later regretted not measuring as he would have been close to a keeper. I trolled around the north and west side of the rock in 60-70' of water for about an hour for salmon with no bites and decided to call it a day. Met and talked to lots of friendly kayak folks.
