Is the bar at Netarts too rough for kayak passage out to the big blue and back?

Yes, 90% of the time (other 10% is shakey).. That is why I launch through the surf.  The tide exchange causes it to be quite rough, except for a small window during slack tide.  Large waves and standing waves build over the shallow spit.  If you go through the surf on the beach north or south of the mouth you don't have to worry about this, as the surf conditions are fairly constant.

Where were you thinking of fishing?

Wasn't thinking so much of the fishing, but more along the lines of crabbing outside the bay somewhere.  The crabs gotta come from somewhere, right?   ;D

It works!  I even leave pots out over night and just check them daily with the yak

Probably no other souls get out there in PB's and bother them.

yep.. Not many if any sport boats crab that far south of t-bay.   I set mine in about 30-40 feet of water on sand bottom either off of Oceanside, Netarts or Cape Lookout state park.  Have done well in all spots. MUCH BETTER than in the bays.

I still want to try a crabbing and clamming get together this year.  Any interest out there?

This has Coos Bay written all over it:

Add Lingcod and Rockfish...And possibly Salmon depending on the time of year
See ya on the water..
