link to ODFW press release:  https://www.dfw.state.or.us/news/2022/05_May/052622.asp

full Siuslaw salmon angling closure is going to hit hard here in the Florence area, residents (many that have friends/family visit to fish), Eugene area day trippers, and (obviously) local casino/businesses. Siuslaw minus salmon = just crab.  >:(  plus a dangerous bar that can make ocean access for salmon unpredictable.

Siuslaw had an absolute explosion in wild chinook fishing pressure in about 2015-2016- guides and private boats, and lots of people here have been begging for a change to '1/day:5/year' for years, especially once the impact of ocean conditions was obvious and the success of 360flasher/3.5spinners kicked in. The Coastal Multi-Species plan locked in the Siuslaw as being managed as a wild chinook fishery, no hatchery fish. But rather than manage for sustainability, it was managed for maximum harvest and we are paying the price for that this year.

Already confusion locally due to a poorly written newspaper article, the river isn't closed to retention of certain salmon species, it is "closed to all salmon angling from Aug. 1-Dec. 31".

Yeah it is.  I got pretty crabby about what they did in the Southwest because the changes look like they're managing for harvest down here, too.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
