Like many people, I have been impatiently waiting for my next trip out in the ocean.  Yesterday looked like a possible window first thing in the morning if the right things lined up just a little.  I arrived at PC to have a look and what do you know, the wind was already stronger than predicted and the swells had already grown and were from the SW.  My possible few hour window slammed shut.  Time for plan B.

I headed to Tillamook Bay.  I launched about 1:45 before the -2.5 low tide.  I went to the islands and raked a limit of cockles then headed to the south jetty.  The tide was still flowing out pretty good, so I decided to troll a fly with the current while looking for fish.  My first fish was a 24” ling caught on the fly.  Possibly my first keeper ling in the bay.  As the tide went slack, the fishing got really good.  I had switched to my spinning rod with a small jig and caught 25-30 rockfish in a couple hours.  I had one other keeper ling up to the boat that came in as a hitch hiker.  I left my net in the truck, or I could have also limited on lings.  Overall, it was a great day fishing and it helped ease my longing to get out in the salt.

The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Nice work James, that's some of the nicer fish I've seen from the bay. I have yet to smell the salt and it's killing me. I've had to cancel two trips to the coast so far so I'm hoping to get over soon.

A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

That looks liek a really excellent day from the bay and a pretty high grade of fish from the bay too from what I have heard/seen...trying to fish on Sunday. Was thinking of going to a lake, but may need to get a bit salty instead...

Cool beans, James!  And as surf12foot said, "At least you got out".
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Totally awesome. Thanks for inspiring me as I finish up a painfully boring and arduous task at work on a Friday...the weekend and, hopefully, fish await!!!
