Bioluminescence at Meadow Point

Decided yesterday that I'd hit Meadow Point this morning (unrealistic optimism at its finest!). Got on the water around 4:20 and as soon as I cleared the Shilshole Marina gates a green/blue glow enveloped my kayak... took me a couple of seconds to confirm that I wasn't dreaming and to realize that what I was seeing was thousands of bioluminescent creatures being disturbed by my wake. Super cool, all of my attention immediately went to soaking in the view and I nearly rammed an unlit sailboat moored off of golden gardens beach.

When I deployed my downrigger & line, I saw that the critters weren't just on the surface - both of my lines were illuminated for quite a ways down.

I've experienced this a couple of times before - in the NC surf and in saltworks on Bonaire, but this is the first time I've seen it in a kayak. Very very cool, well worth the skunk.

I love that! We often see that in Nehalem Bay at night in the fall - such a cool experience walking around the beach at low tide and leaving glowing footprints.
