For any and all interested NWKA's next Sunday March 8th (1st day of daylight savings) BSteves (still in?) and myself will be meeting up at the boat ramp (time to be decided) then drive to a better launch site on Netarts Bay for an outing of yak clamming and possibly crabbing (although it is a better clam than crab tide).   I have grown up on this bay and would be happy to put us on some good diggen spots. A minus low tide is in the mid/late afternoon and the extra daylight should give us more than enough time to gather our bounty.

Is Sunday good for folks?

I will have to look up the exact tide but it is in the afternoon (not to say that you couldn't crab before that).  You would need a shovel and or clam rake a container to hold your catch, knowledge of the regs and a Shellfish tag.

Insayn: could be a prime tide to practice your nighttime crab grabbin

I'm still in and looking forward to it.

I'll be heading down south to get schooled by our south coast salty dogs.

If the swell forecast doesn't go your way consider some clamming a little closer to home.

Heres a little more info on Netarts Clamming (hope the link works).  According to many Netarts is one of the best clam bays on the west coast due to its lack of nearby agriculture/development and no major rivers dump into the bay thus the clams are happy healthy and safe from pollutants.

Dang it, Sunday.  I have to work that Saturday and Sunday.    :BangHead:

I'm going to have to be reserved for Thurs, Fri and possible Saturday trips.

Maybe next time.

For any interested in coming for some clamming, what time would work?  Looks like the area we will clam will be exposed sometime in the neighborhood of 4pm ish or latter. Should take about 1/2 hour or less to get our clams, we could set some pots for crabs and play with those but with such a large tide exchange it might not be as productive as other times. Open for suggestions or feedback. Limits (clam) almost guaranteed!

How about surf perch fishing (non-yak) in the area before the clamming?

Surf perch are possible from Cape Lookout state park or on the north side of Cape Mears. Not sure of the success rate but it is an option.

The bay also holds pile perch but they can be hard to nail down.

Cape Mears lake also holds trout with an easy launch about 10 minutes away.

We could try fishing the ocean but looking at the long range predictions and sat images a decent forecast doesn't look likely.  yah never know though..

There is also the Wilson and Trask nearby.

Tillamook Bay also has sturgeon (I've had my best luck at low tide, so that would conflict with clams)
