Hi All,
I'm going out for rockfish and lings tomorrow. Planning to launch about 6:30 or so. Would be great to have some company.

Unfortunately, Friday is not an option for me. I went north to Baltimore rock because it was closer. Fishing was slow but I managed to find 4 nice rockfish including a black that was a tank. I released a 23" ling and a handful of smaller rockfish. Conditions were great. Good luck tomorrow.

sort of a slow bite at Simpson but I did get one decent lingcod (lol), lost a couple other large fish.  I really wanted it to be 40" but just couldn't stretch it.  38", 18# on a herring.  added a 5.5# Copper and 3# Black and then something in the spine on my MD180 drive appears to have finally broken, while I was still at Simpson Reef.  My ROV thrusters got me back to Sunset Bay at 3.5mph, so no worries.  Now I need to fix my drive so I can get started salmon fishing the Siuslaw next week.

Good job sir! Much bigger ling than any I saw at PC today.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

well that sucks but I got this MD180 drive in late 2018 with my new design Outback, 7 years of frequent steady but careful use, never stripped any gear teeth or other issues, new spine assembly on the way for $332.  could be worse.

My 2021 drive looked about the same, luckily got it replaced under warranty. Was a no hassle process, but took weeks to get it replaced. Luckily the awesome people at Oregon Paddle Sports loaned me a drive at no charge.  If n when it happens again, I'm definitely gonna get the metal replacement parts.

That's a great fish. Next time I'll try out Simpson reef.
