More and more of our popular Oregon State Park day use areas are requiring the paid day use fee.  I’ve heard rumor that includes Sunset Bay State Park.  That fee has gone up to $10 in most areas.

Right now, the annual pass is $30 and you can get a two year pass for $50.  That too is changing with the new year.  Starting next year, the annual pass will be $60 and they won’t be offering the two year pass.

I just ordered my two year pass online today.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

F…ING… stupid government grab for $$$ is all it is… as is all the increasing of “fees” in my opinion, we’re getting real close to a “tea party” originating in the logical of theBoston area…….. just like minimum wage increases to help the “less fortunate”…. BS only one that benefits is the people collecting tax dollars on you pay check!  Because the cost of EVERYTHING increases to cover the cost of paying the “minimum wage” increase!!!! NO BODY  gets out of the hole with this thinking…. Alright rant over continue with your regularly scheduled fishing shiza!!!

Thank you for the heads-up on this price hike!

Going from $50 for 2 years to $60 for 1 year is OUT OF CONTROL and totally REDICULOUS.

I just ordered a two year pass as well. Perfect timing as my annual pass (that I think I purchased for $25 last year) is expiring end of the month.
With day-use permits now being $10, two years for $50 is a great deal.
Gives me at through end of 2027 before being hit with the insane price increases.

what makes me mad is that the State Park system is making all sorts cost increases to the day use fees/passes and campground fees in an effort to deal with an estimated.... $8M shortfall.  at the same time, the State of OR is returning $1.410B of excess revenue to tax payers in 2026?

so if I can still do simple subtraction...funding the State Park system would leave like $1.402B in the Kicker fund.

seems to me the Oregon problem with the State Parks (and roads, K-12 funding, ODFW funding) isn't a lack of funds, it's an unwillingness to spend the money we have (and that the majority of us support spending.)

You can blame the state economists for that one. Realistically though that money would get eaten by many other pet projects the legislature could devise over everything else you've listed.

"Sure I'll vote yes it if you pay for this new bridge in my district, $50,000,000" "Oh you need my vote? I want this new community center, $20,000,000" And so it goes, all **may** be valuable things for those communities no doubt... Ultimately there's a reason why the kicker was put in place, everyone can argue the merits or downfalls of it but there's a reason for it. You're more than welcome to donate your kicker check to whoever you find can use it the most wisely.

In my experience, prices go up, never come down & no amount of complaining or false political promises is going to change that.
That's part of life in America folks. At least most of us aren't starving to death (yet).

Yep, can't argue with facts. The Oregon "kicker" tax surplus law was passed by the legislature in 1979 and approved by voters in 1980.
