I could be wrong bad lattitude but i believe the goop is more of a waterproofing and corrosion prevention solution rather than to hold the screws in place...but i imagine it does help with that

It's essentially an adhesive and sealant. I'm sure it holds the screws in place a little but don't really think that's really a concern. Make sure to use stainless locking nuts w/ a nylon insert and they won't back out on you. I've never had screws come loose all these years and never heard of others w/ that issue. It's also nice to have the ability to change out mounted parts on the yak in case they break or need upgrading.
