Just trying to see if anyone frequents the Cape at Pacific City and would like some company when the weather starts getting nice. I've been out through the surf there a couple of times and absolutely love it! Any company for safety, advise, someone to hold the camera... whatever... would be much appreciated and, to be honest, would help my lady sleep better at night knowing I'm not out there again by myself!

Jeff,

Welcome to NWKA.  I enjoy hitting the ocean when conditions allow.  In fact, I've been itching to get some rockfish and lingcod soon.  What's your schedule like?  I'm willing to take a day off work if the conditions look perfect.

I'm almost prepared to take the trip.  Just need a good pole, reel and proper lures.
(BTW - I backed out on the pole and reel at the swap shop).

Hey, how soon do you plan to hit the PC?

Clueless! That's where!! :dontknow:

Good to hear! I have Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays off. Thursdays are usually my fishing days - I enjoy the lack of crowds! Any of those days though are fair game. bsteves, I'm with ya on that one, I'll even call in sick if the conditions are right and we've got a crew rollin out.
I have recently got a bad itch to get out there for some rock fish and lings as I haven't been paddling for a while!
Really all I'm waiting for is the surf to calm down.
Another question for you guys....
What site do you use for surf predictions? I have a few that I check, but I just wanted to ask to see if there's something better out there.

I will be at the coast all next week, either fishing the salt or the rivers for steelhead (conditions allowing of course).  If the ocean cooperates I will post when I plan to head out and any that want can join me.  Most likely at PC unless the ocean is really nice then I will hit some other spots with less protected launches.

yaknitup - I have Wed, Thurs, Friday and every other Saturday off.

Thursdays and Fridays are my free days usually.   Once I get my fishing gear up to par, I'll be game!

On a side note, (something AMB mentioned to me a while back)....
We can just park down where the Dory launchers park on the sand,  we just need a sign in the window saying "Kayak launched" or something to that effect?   Is there more to it than that?

I have 4wd, and not afraid to use it.  ;D

If you are still looking for a rod and reel that can be used for bottom fishing, I have 1 or 2 old boat setups that I rescued. They're not pretty but they work great. They're fiberglass rods paired with older Penn 85 and 285 reels. I traded both for a 6-pack of beer.

Good stuff!
Yeah, I found magicseaweed a couple of months ago and I love that one. Good call on the NOAA site. I have a couple of other ones if you'd like to take a look...

I seem to get a good idea with those sites. Since I'm a newbie to the area, I'm still trying to get a feel for what is "manageable" when I'm looking at the reports.

Dang, It's good to see there's this many of our kind around and up for some surf-punchin! Sounds like we'll get some runs in here soon! I guess I'll just start trowing out some pm's or just keep this thread going when it looks good. Everyone feel free to send me a PM if you have some solid plans and want some company.
Cheers!

Hey PP,
We will be staying in Neskowin Sunday through sometime Wednesday. If the ocean allows, I'd love to get back out there. If not, how about a steelhead float or 2?

I'm kinda holding out for the Lamiglas 6'-6" Cascade Pro XT rod I saw at Bi-Mart, to go on sale.  And for the time being I'll just put my Penn 209 on it until I can find a deal on a better suited reel.

That's a really good question. I haven't heard anything about that to be honest. That's something I'll definately look into. I guess my roof rack stated my method or something like that.

Hey steelheadr, I'd be down for a float for some chrome. The predictions for the river look to be pretty good around later this week. I haven't floated a river for steel yet but I've been dying to give it a try!

Steelheadr..  I will let you know when I head out, hopefully the ocean gives us at least one chance. Very hit and miss this time of year.

Right now I wouldn't bother driving on the beach at PC, to much chance of getting stuck etc.  In the summer just put a piece of paper that says Kayak launcher etc. in your window and make sure to be smart where you park so you don't mess up the dory guys.

If you launch at Cape Kiwanda you can drive down on the beach and turn right.  You can park anywhere a dory boat trailer can, just post a sign in the window that you are launching a kayak.  I have a Kayak Launch / Recovery Vehicle sign in my window.  This was confirmed with a beach patrol ready to write me a ticket until he learned what I was up to.  When you going?
