We scoped out the launch sites at a new little lake that had over 3000 trout stocked last week. It might be a little windy, so we picked a lake back away from the Gorge and will hit it at dawn.
If you're going, good luck and see you out there!

I will be avoiding the opening lakes like the plague! :P

I drove past Blue and Park Lakes, in the Sun Lakes area in Central WA, today. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of campers and RVs parked in the pullouts along the highway. Jeebers!

I'm pretty much out in the boonies, the crowds weren't a problem today but the 15-30mph wind was.

Opening day will be tomorrow for me.

It was cold, rainy, windy and all that this morning up the Mt. Baker Highway, but we made it out and IndyNoodle (the 9 year old) was a SUPER trooper. We were able to pull in a few planter trout before the weather made us need to duck for cover.  Today was IndyNoodle's first trip out on opening day, he caught his first trout, and he caught his first fish from a kayak.  Woo Hoo.

Good job getting out.

Here's what it looked like at Sun Lakes area, yesterday. Probably a real zoo, today.

Kind of windy in our neighborhood, today. We'll get lots of other chances, so I decided not to push it with my kid.

PS beautiful country, no wonder the opener must seem like the zoo--so peaceful any other time of year.

There is just something about fishing elbow to elbow that ...well.. just isn't fishing.  Not the way I like to fish anyway.  Nice thing is that it will  calm down soon enough.. :P

Wind died down on Sunday so I hit it first thing. Not much of a crowd, there never is around here, except at the most popular salmon spots during the runs.
Fishing was a little slow, it was sunny, but cool. Managed to get a couple rainbows to get the season going.

Where's the wind?;)

It's amazing how much calmer it is a few miles North.  Looks like a great day.  Have you ever hooked into any of the triploids in there?

Not yet, but I'm planning on it. They stick brood stock in the lakes around here as well. I got one of those last year, but it was so beat from being in a tank I let it go to enjoy it's golden years.
