Well after 45 minutes of having my feet under the heater vent in the truck last night the feeling in my toes finally came back... I stayed pretty warm and dry except for the last hour and a half.

What are you guys using or recommend?  Maybe some neoprene bootys or something?  My only other option would be to use my waterproof hunting boots.  don't want to spend a ton of money but just want to be dry....

Thanks Pete

I use neoprene wading booties with a felt bottom most of the time. Good for stumbling around on rocks and warm. They have a zipper to take them off. Sometimes I wear regular wetsuit booties.

That's another reason I like neoprene stocking foot waders. Dry feet feel warmer. Add a pair of neoprene camp shoes and your toes will be toasty.

you need some nepoleon boots. My feet were wet and cold every trip that wasn't a dock launch with the wet shoes. Ever since i got these, dry and toasty. One the best yak purchases so far. I got the largest size(13) and they will fit over a stocking foot wader easy.

I use the basic surfer booties.
about $20.00 tops at most surf shops.
wool socks below them on a cold day and cotton socks most of the time.
good grip and comfort with worthy cold protection.

pete,
actually , i think the question from us to you should be, "what are you wearing when you go out?"

that would give us an idea on where to start to give you even more good advice, which has been pretty solid so far.

but, neoprene waders, wool socks under them, and a set of good yakking boots is a nice start. never, ever wear cotton. in our conditions, it's our worst enemy.

Well I've only been out in the yak twice.  Once on hood canal and once in a lake.  Both time it was sunny to start off with so I wore keens (basically sandalls).  I was find will in the yak, I was able to keep my feet out of the water that came in from the scupper hole but after some time, it was just to much.

Yes, I know what was I thinking.  I'm still a newbie so I'm learning..

WR  (wanderingrichard) is correct .. its all a learning curve.. i learned over the weekend to make sure i check all my seals on my dry pants and top.. and also to make sure my PFD is tight enough.. i found out the hard way doing a self rescue practice for the first time at the paddle festival down in vancouver..

it was my only 3rd time having the kayak on the water and me ever being on one.  but now i am ready to go fishing in a lake somewhere.. anyone game?

Pete, I've been happy with the service and prices from Outdoorplay.com.  No sales tax, so in WA you save 8-10% right off.  I suggest you join their Outdoor play club.  For a $20 or $25 one time fee, you get 15% off and free shipping.  Add it all up and they end up near the bottom of the price point for many of their products.
