I stopped by the Northgate Joe's on the way home yesterday.  Pretty slim pickins.  Looks to me like they removed all the quality stuff and left mostly junk and clothes.  They had some bait reels at 40% off.

I was looking an an Abu line counter reel.  Of course it had no line on it, yet, when cranked the counter rolled.  Obviously, the reel was not measuring line, but counting gear revolutions.  This would not even be close to accurate as the circumference of the spool changes as you let out or reel in line.  I did not purchase.

Are there any line counting reels out there that REALLY measure the line movement and not just some average based on gearing?

Not to my knowledge. I Bought a Tekota LC once for mooching and while I was doing the usual pondering you tend to do while waiting for a bite, it occured to me the line counter is just something else that will eventually fail, is only as accurate as the spool is full and I could be almost as close to depth or distance accuracy if I counted pulls.

Anybody want to buy a seldom used Tekota 600LC?

it'll get you close as least... that said, they probably had the 5500LC.  I bought one and it broke the second time i used it... i'm STILL waiting on that repair/replacement...

There aren't any reels that I know of that actually count the line, but there are a few snap-on line counters that will actually count the line...

They're pretty accurate when using a full spool of mono (assuming the mono is the correct test for the reel).

There are digital reels that adjust for amount of line on the reel and diameter of the line. They cost quite a few Schrute bucks.

There was a good comparison of LC reels in a S&SJ a couple of months ago. I just pro-formed 2 Tekota 500LC reels yesterday at $121 per piece, which isn't nearly as good as the buy-one-get-one-free I got at Joe's the day before the "Liquidation" started.
