I did this trip once as a kid in a raft, but don't remember much about it other than I had a hell of a good time catching smallmouth bass, tasting beer, and attempting to smoke my first cigar, lol.

I know we put in at service creek and used a shuttle service, but that is about it. Is the trip doable in summer on SOTs? What flows should we be looking for?

Any input any of you can give would be great!

Lot's of good discussions here on the John Day.  Try the search function.

Dammit, busted... I try to use the search first, but was in sort of a rush this time. Glad to hear that it is more than feasible in a SOT. One question I did have is what flows do you guys typically run? I saw that one person thought it would be unrunnable in a loaded SOT below 800CFM. Any other input on this?

Did it last year on SOT's.  Started at 750 and ended at 500.  Got a little skinny in a few places but not a problem.  Ideally would look for 800 - 1200.

I will be doing to the lower section in two weeks from 30 mile to Cottonwood.
