Wow what an awesome day of fishing...

After having caught a underling and a few rocks last Sunday I decided to give it a shot this weekend...
Yarjammer pms me Wednesday and says hes probably taking Friday off if we can go fishing...I call him thursday and he says hes taking it off either way...Nursing the tail end of a sickness I was reluctant to say lets go but I went ahead and planned a 11o'clock meet at my house and we would drive to the spot from there...Friday rolls around and luckily I'm not feeling bad at all just a stuffy nose as usual...Yarjammer shows up shortly after 11 and I finish loading up because I am late as always...We head down to the spot and hop out the trucks...Take a walk down to the water...there were quite a few stairs then a few foot drop from the concrete to the rocks then about s 50 ft drag from the concrete the water...We get all our stuff to the water and I am a little ways out before yarjammer gets out because he was talking with some folks that were passing by...I am watching the depth finder and amazed that I am nearly 100yards out and its still 11 feet deep...I finally find the drop off and wait for yarjammer...he paddles up and we head to the spot...One stink pot is there but they stay out of the way and leave rather quickly (i guess they weren't having good luck not a good sign)....We drop our lures and its not long before I get a rockfish on....Yarjammer has a few issues with getting hung up but shortly after he is back in business...He gets a sanddap after a bit....I drop my lure and it gets slammed...This sucker fights pretty good I thought he was huge...but apparantly he just really wanted to get back to his whole...its a ling but again like the weekend before its an underling about 22 inches...We continue to fish catching small fish here and there...then yarjammer gets slammed...I mean really slammed...Hes bent over double for a good 30 seconds before the fish must have wrapped him up in some rocks or something and hes hung...can't do anything...We continue to fish catching a few underlings and rockfish...
Its been a few hours now the bite is pretty steady when I get slammed...I call for yarjammer...Yelling its big...its real big...He starts reeling up to come help...this fish is tryin to yank the rod right out of my hands...he definitely gets the tip in the water a lot lol...the penn slammer rod I use has alot of backbone but it sure does do alot of bending also...I get it to the surface and its a huge lingcod...but as soon as I say I got him up he makes another dive almost ripping the rod out of my hands again...he pulls drag for a while but then tires out and I get him back to the top...I go to net him and he gets in the net but does a tail walk and flies out of the net...I jerk the rod hoping my lure is still in his mouth and it is...amazing...I go for the net again but hes not having it...finally after several failed attempts and what seems like an eternity I get him secured in the net...or so I think...I reach in and put lip grippers on his mouth and hold him up for the camera but just as I start to lay him down he thrashes violently and I can't hold on...and neither can the lip grippers...they go flying along with the net...somehow I manage to reach up and slam the fish down in between my legs without him biting me...now my lip grippers are floating behind me and my net is tangled behind me...I stretch back and get the lip grippers and get him secured again...I put a hawg trough up to him but its not gonna be long enough...but it verifies he isn't to big so yarjammer comes over and bonks him on the head a few times...finally I can handle him in peace...I really gotta work out the logistics of catching big fish better...we get side by side and put a couple hog troughs together to try and get an accurate measurement...Yarjammer snaps some pics I'm way to excited and say to myself we'll get some picks when we get back...
We continue to fish when a few spear divers pull up in there boats...we get to talking to him and he tells us that hes been fishing that area for nearly 20 years and he's always amazed at the amount of fish that are in there...he goes down and about 40 minutes later comes up with a few lingcod...one of them quite a bit bigger than mine...
All and all it was a great day...unfortunately yarjammer couldn't get the big ones to bite and stay hooked but he did catch a few underlings...and a pretty nice rockfish at that...
I will definately be hitting this spot hard next year
Hopefully yarjammers pics came out on the lingcod because my few pics came out really bad because the camera lense was wet...oh well
