Yehp, you read it right. Our sea kayak building brethern to the north are bringing out a hard shell, one off hull design fishing yak. If it's built anything like their traditional sea and touring boats, this is gonna be one tough boat.

I first stumbled onto it a few months ago while doing research for my 1st sea and touring yak. After emailing back and forth a bit, Mark Hall confirmed they were gonna make it happen this year.

Today being a lazy day, finally, I finally got a chance to go look for it on the Delta site, and sure enough, it's different.. take a look here; http://www.deltakayaks.com/html/photos.htm

I'lll talk to Mark Hall about sharing our emails with the group. I know he was sure stoked during the R&D on it.

I was just thinking about this yak last week ... wondering if Delta was going to get it out this year.  They've been working on it for at least 2 years now.  I'd love to get on one for a paddle.

I wonder what the split-hull does for stability?

Ok,
Mark hasn't answered me yet, but i'm sure he wont mind me posting this at least.

Hi there Richard,

Thanks for the inquiry.

Yes, I will have some pics up shortly of the prototype catfish in action.

I am on version Mark III and am pretty sure we have it dialled!

It is very stable, quick, light, looks very unique.

I am trying the see through window today to see how functional it is.

Two hatches.

I am 250lbs and can sit sideways and put my knees under water before it tips.

Quite exciting and I suspect based on the orders prior to us having it on the market I may be onto something here!!

The Delta guys were at Moutcha Bay last year (paddling circles around everything but the Hobie's).  If there is going to be some sort of event up there again this year, I wonder if they might bring a boat or two to demo.

Mark, i'm including Allen  in our discussion here. he's basically our groups leader and founder.

I think a demo day would be great! I know this boat has generated some interest in our forums, because of whom it's coming from. Trust me, Catfish, coming from Delta, renowned for it's sea and touring kayaks, thats unique. When would you like to set this up? I'm still in Germany until 4 July, then it looks like Hawaii for 30-60 days starting early August.

Allen, you open any time soon?
