I've got a private group I'm taking to the coast this weekend for a "surf zone fundamentals for fisherman" class.

got me wondering if there were more people out there interested in learning some fundamentals before venturing through the break.

Any interest out there if I made this a regular class?

What exactly makes this a fisherman class?

You should be teaching a real surfing class this weekend lol.  Best conditions we've seen in over 2 months 7-8foot swell 15 seconds it's killing me that i can't take my board out :'-(

Sit on tops & how to keep yer arse in/on the boat & what to do if you don't. How to avoid yard sales and the other 99% of KAYAK fishing ;D. It's basically surf zone survival class. If you survive, the fishing is a bonus!

It's stellar. I'm thinking I will stay Sat. night and Sunday for play.

Kind of big for an intro class though. Ideally <5ft would be nice. We probably won't venture to far into the zone if it looks that big from the beach.

You might want to also teach people how to straddle for stability (while sitting still). And also how to straddle and shimmy up to the front hatch to stow or access gear.

Yeah, that was by no means a class syllabus.

Well, most of us are using kayaks. I could offer a pedal boat class for you if you are interested. >:D

We'll learn about clothing and safety gear, proper safety techniques, Then we're going to learn how to drive a kayak. Forward stroke refinement, sweeps, draws, pries, edging and carving. Then we're going to learn how to help someone else and yourself get back on the boat. Then bracing.
Then we'll talk about how to safely stow gear and launch through the break, how to get your gear once your out. How to read water, what info is needed to be safe (tides/current/weather/wind/etc), and understanding surf zone etiquette.
Then we'll start working our way out and applying all this in the surf zone until we travel through the surf zone with all our gear under control, and then we'll work on landings!

Now you see that! There you go again! Next you'll be talking about a having an inflatable pool toy surf class and then what? A mokai class!?!?!  >:D

So you want to take that show on the road? The surf is smaller and the water's a LOT warmer here (and we got BIG fishys w/o the big teeth).

;D Shamu is waiting.

If that were the case I'd be teaching you. :police: FYI Hobie users pull and stow their MD's (smart one's put a plug in the MD opening) for launches and landings so we're purely paddlers then.

Sounds like a great class to have once I get my kayak (next week i hope!). Wouldn't work for me on weekends though, as i'm off wed-thursday.
