Hi,

It was nice meeting some of you folks on Sat.  I had some family obligations so I did not hit the water until 9:00.  I tried out my new down rigger which worked out OK but it was aquite challenging to keep going straight dragging a 4lb ball off my port side.  I made a number of passes going towards the wreck but no joy.  I marked a few schools of fish and only saw 2 fish boated after 6 hrs.  I was amazed on how much chop there was from the 200 or some odd motor boats trolling.  Good thing my Dorado is sea worthy as I had no problem with the slop.  Hope to meet up with you all in the future.

Tomas

The pinkout was a fun day. In spite of the fish making themselves scarce, Sally and I had a great time!

Hey Brian, can you send me your tri-tip recipe? Those hunks of beef rocked!  :headbang:

ok here it goes..

One 3-4 lb tri-tip (called serloin tip here) untrimmed is best.
Stab the hell out of it with a fork all over.
dunk it in a bottle of Modelo Negra for about 2-6 hours.
take it out and rub it down with Grill Mates Mesquite,  Grill Mates BBQ, chilli powder, cinnamon, lemon pepper and salt.
get a stew pot hot with about a half cup of veggie oil.
"seal" up the meat on all sides to a golded brown.
take the same ingredients as your rub and mix it up with your fav italian dressing.
after the meat has all the juices sealed inside place it on the bbq (500*)
using a brush slop the rub/dressing mix over the top.  The oil in the dressing will get the flames going a bit (this is a good thing)
after about 8-10 minutes flip it over and paint again.

do this 4 times for rare (3-4 lb) 6 for med 8 for well
let sit for 10  minuted before cutting.
can be served hot or cold with salsa and whole pinto beans and tortillas

bon apatite!

Great pics looked like a good turnout!

What brand of yak is the Dorado? That is a nice looking ride.  I have been playing around with making a NW purpose built saltwater yak, this winter, much along the lines of that one..  I think yaks are ready for the same thing that happened to aluminum jet sleds about 10-15 years ago.  They went from a couple basic design forms to very purpose specific designs suited to the NW fisheries.

What brand of yak is the Dorado?

The Dorado is a South African fishing kayak/surf ski.    The company name is Kaskazi and there are very few (i.e. one) American distributors.

I paddled one one a few years ago in Northern California.  They are very nice indeed.

Here's the Kaskazi website.
http://kaskazi.co.za/kayaks/kaskazi_dorado.shtml

Here's the US distributor's website.
http://www.venturesport.com/cgi-bin/products/products.cgi?search=cat_kayaks&title=Kayaks

A fiberglass Dorado costs about $1800, carbon runs $2900.

aaahhh... that's why it sounded familiar.  If i could afford that much in a yak, i'd probably end up peddling instead.  Still a very sexy looking yak though!   Maybe if I win powerball wednesday......
