Beatiful Day!!  Slow fishing for me, a lost at the boat decent ling, a 17" Cabezon and just a nice day on the water.  That's my half....

Now for 24togo's story...  Well you'll have to ask him about the 40+ inch halibut (that destroyed a berkley lip grip) and this monster 29" 17lb cabezon.  Sorry only have my cell phone pic camera needs to be recharged before i can post better shots.

Wow, 29" that's a friggin' huge Cabby.  Glad to hear you had a good day on the water.

That caby was unreal.  24 really peaked my curiousity when i heard him yelling from a 100 yards away first it was cheers of glee.   Then the "Ugh Cody I need some help over here!!!"

That area is a great place for cabs.  They seem to be much bigger than elsewhere?   That is a very nice one!  Bummer about the Butt, would have been a heartbreaker to let it go (season closed),  I too learned earlier this year, lip grippers are not the proper tool for halibut.

Short of a bullet in the head, what would be "the" halibut tool of choice?

That is a freakin' sweet "gamorgeous" cabby.  (I'm actually doing the eyes popping out of my head gesture right at this moment.)  Way to go.

Thanks for the props, and thanks to Surfanor for all the help with first the halibut and then the cabbie.  Heartbreaker about losing the halibut with the lip gripper ('bout thrashed me out of the boat before it broke the gripper), would've been even more of a heartbreaker if the season had still been open.  The cabbie was amazing.  I thought it was another halibut the way it was taking line.  I started yelling for Cody to come help me with whatever it was.  I saw that it was a cab and figured I had it.  Then I saw how big it was and really needed him to come and get my stern safety line unhooked to use as a stringer.  Needless to say, I'm now formulating plans for a stringer system for big fish.  Simple and effective with one hand is what I'll be making.  Couple more pictures, courtesy of Surfanor and his 17" cab, which was his first, by the way!  Thanks again buddy!

Wow.  That last picture really shows how much of a monster it is that you landed - every cabbie that i have brought in so far has been in the 17-20 inch range, and they all look like Surfanor's.

Yeah, I guess I don't have to tell you how hard halibuts can be to land. Count yourself lucky only losing the LG. ;) For some great info and vids on halibut from the yak check this thread: http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,2834.0.html
