Fathoms or feet?

Or is it redundant?  As in, a Fathom, in nautical parlance, would only be used to indicate depth of water, and so saying " 'x' fathoms of water," would be redundant, like saying " 'x' Knots per hour."

Just wondering.  I keep seeing FOW in posts.

Cheers,
Madoc

Here's a link to what the conversion factors are for converting "x" measurement into fathoms:

http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/units/length/length.fathom.en.html

Until my fishfinder reads "fathoms", I'll be sticking with "feet" references... I really don't want to have to do more math while enjoying a day on the water.

Dang! I always thought FOW meant either "fished out waters" or "funky old waders.":D

In most posts FOW refers to Feet Of Water.

I use that more than inches, or feet on any given day.
That's what we use at Intel for thickness measurements.  ;D

No, more like.... "Crap, this tool is down again and will need a temperature adjustment, an MFC purge, RF cal, and cycle 150 wafers because it failed thickness monitor by 150 Å's."  (angstroms)
