OK .....We have solved the flounder limit debate... I think ....
What is the greenling limit?   cause I catch a lot of those in Freshwater bay and Sekiu...Nice white fillets and larger that sole...Real easy to fillet and tasty fish taco material...
All you psuedo lawyers chime in... Thanks,   Glenn ...

Pretty sure they're classified as rockfish so that would mean that the first one you catch would be your limit if you're in area 5. If you were in area 4 that limit would go to 10 fish though. Year-round even.

Greenling are defined as bottomfish, not rockfish, so they fall in the same category as the flatfish. Check bottom left corner page 22 of regs and you'll see where they lump the greenling in with bottomfish.  Then, just look up your marine area.

Definition from regs.

Bottom fish
Includes Pacific cod, Pacific tomcod, Pacific hake (or whiting), walleye pollock, all species of dabs, sole and flounders (except Pacific halibut), lingcod, ratfish, sablefish, cabezon, greenling, buffalo sculpin, great sculpin, red Irish lord, brown Irish lord, Pacific staghorn sculpin, wolfeel, giant wrymouth, plainfin midshipman, all species of shark, skate, rockfish, rattail, and surf perches excluding shiner perch."

Bottom fish rules for area 5:
"Year-round season. Daily limit is a total of 15 BOTTOMFISH regardless of species, subject to individual limits and seasons shown below." No individual limits set for greenling so from what is here I'd agree w/ you Yak Monkey.

I haven't heard of anyone retaining more than one though. ???

WA regs are such a pain.  I'm glad these things come up on the forum as it's good to get several heads together just to sort out some of the confusing info we are presented with.

Hi Brian....Here we go again  LOL....who's gonna call or e-mail the fishcops?   Maybe I will.
15 greenling makes a lot of fish tacos and they are super easy to fillet... They do have worms sometimes but a little candling lets you see......
.UPDATE..... Decided to call WDFW    1-360-902-2700.... Talked to David....who would not give his name because of "Death Threats"   (Do you believe that?)  He refered me to page 22  and said 15 fish is the rule.. Then he asked me why I would want 15?...... I said I just wanted to know the rule ... I hope my phone won't be tapped now ..This is top secret stuff...LOL...Greenling Glenn
