CastIronTrout,
Yes, I fish Lake Yale and sometimes Merwin for Koks. I caught about 60 this year mostly in Yale. They are a little smaller, but the limit is 16 where it is only 5 in Merwin. I was doing pretty well down to around 40 feet then by mid Sept I would only get one or two a trip. I have a down rigger on my yak and tried all depths, different wedding ring colors, and ford fenders but it dried up quick. last two times out all I could catch were squaw fish.

I would be more than happy to go with you this spring when they start biting again

For trout I fish Prinveville Reservoir and Pelton Dam. I want to find other places for trout a little closer to Portland.

Looking forward to meeting you Thursday!

Kevin

I would like to meet up with you guys this Thursday. I have to admit I went to the Sportsbar last time and wandered around for awhile. Not sure what to look for.  Therefore, If you see a guy with a big Golden Retriever wave him down.  I would like to put faces to the names.

I called and they don't take reservations but they do have a back room where they said we could pull a few tables together. Last meetup someone brought a NWKA flag on a pole. I don't have one but I do have a red Next Adventure bandana, I'll stick it on a pole and also will let the folks there know that the Kayak Fishermen are meeting so just ask at the desk.

Not sure if you can bring a Golden Retriever into the restaurant, but, hey, this is Portlandia, who knows.

See y'all there.

If there were NWKA decals available (  :director: hint, hint), I'd have one on my kayak and we could put that on the table.

Well, Kevin.....it's your lucky day. http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/lets_go_fishing/index.asp  ;D
Hey and for what its worth, I was also told by another kayaker earlier today (don't think he's on this forum though), that Swift Resevoir, which if I have the name right, is above Yale (?) and is really hot right now for all species. Again, for what its worth.

Swift is above Yale and I have also heard the fishing is good there. I have fished there in th past, but it is a long drive to get up to the lake. If you stop at Merwin or Yales, you get an extra hour of fishing in.

I do like to get out on the water so if you want to give it a try, I would go.

Hi all.  I am planning on coming to the meet up tomorrow.

I do not have a boat yet, but hopefully soon.

I realized that it is just as important to have some people to go with so I'll see you there.

I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.
