Well I decided to go with “Gooped Puck” style transducer mount. Using it while on the water will tell the tail if this is going to work for me or not. The only thing that I’m slightly concerned about is…will the unit be to far for me to use and see with ease.
Time will tell…
Do I need to fill water over the top of the transducer or just the bottom half?
Next project will be the Anchor trolley and I like the look of Demonick’s set up. I must say you did a great job posting it on your web site!
I want to thank all those who gave me ideas about pimping out the Yak! It’s great to have help from the pros, those that have spent time on the water to dial in there fishing kayaks. It shortens the newbie’s learning curve!!
I have the weeleez beach kart with the beach tires, will they hold up on rocky type paths leading to lakes as apposed to sand leading to the beach. Would having the other style of tire weeleez makes for harsher terrains a good idea? Don’t want spend anymore money but don’t want to pop the beach tire ether?

To answer your question about the Wheeleez tires, it is my understanding that the low pressure (2.5 - 4 psi) prevents puncture from most moderately sharp objects, like pointy stones, twigs, crushed rock, etc. So they ar OK for most hard trails or surfaces.  Definitely avoid broken glass and blackberries, or rolling 'em over anything that looks too sharp or puncturish (I just minted a new word! >:D), though.

Do you plan to launch though the surf into the ocean? If not, looks good.  If you do, I would suggest reworking your gear attachment strategy for your milk crate and behind the seat tackle box. A good Huli in decent surf and those would most likely be gone, or "hangin".  My form of testing was to load my yak "launch ready" (my rods ride inside the hull) flip the yak over (bottom up), lift the stern waist high and shake HARD up and down a several times.  What hits the floor, or is left hanging  "needs work".  Once my yak passes this test then I'm "huli proof".  Congrats on getting her rigged up! ;D

QD,

I like your transduce mount method.  It'll let you take your transducer out of the boat any time you like.  I use the same method, albeit quite a bit more primitive looking.  That's handy to prevent theft and also if your transducer craps out and needs to be replaced.  No theft experience here but I'd highly reccommend that you don't forget the dielectric grease before any salt water trips.  I've burned two of them that way.

As for water in the hollow... as long as the water level comes up to the halfway seam on your puck then you'll be fine.  I leave a small wash rag in the hull to get my water into the hollow.  Just dip it overboard and then squeeze into the puck hollow.  Every other method usually makes a mess for me.  And speaking of pucks, for your mount style there is no front or back to them.  They are only shaped that way for fluid dynamic transom mounting.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Before you do anymore pimping I'd say get out there and fish!! There'a a bizillion things you could add to your yak but the only way to fond out if you actually need it is to get out there. That yak looks plenty fishable to me.  ;)

Looks good.  Time to get it bloody.

I was going to run with a milk crate in mine, but have yet to figure out what to put in it, so I bagged that idea and just use many of them in the garage for fishing tackle/gear storage now.   8)

Take a look at Yakintup's rod holder setup that goes over the rear tank well.  Does a doozy of a job at rod storage yet keeps the tank well clear for fish and other stuff.

I do plan on attaching my gear in a much more secure fashion when performing a beach launch. The picture is just showing my general setup. I will be using two rods for fresh water and two rods for the salt won't be using all four at one time. The pick is just showing all the rods, the two in the milk crate are the rods I'll be using for the salt the one that is closest to the paddle blade is a pen rod that sanded down and wrapped myself 10 years ago!! The two in the rod holders are for fresh.
Of course more modifications will take place in time!

I will use your suggestion for huli proofing your gear!!

Just wanted to share my progress with the group. :)

Thanks,

Chuck

Where are you going to keep your fish?

I'll use game clip it's is used to secure a fish to your boat. With fish such as Rock Fish, Bass or a big halibut the clip can be used to restrain a fish after it has been gaffed (as regulations permit) to help ensure he doesn't find a way overboard. When keeping fish for dinner they game clip is a handy stringer. When not holding fish it can be used to gather up a bunch of kelp and act as an anchor.

What are your thoughts...

Looks good, but bloody looks better!
Best advice is go play in the water with it. Be careful though, those rods waaay out back look like an invitation to wali.

Looks like everything is coming along nicely SD!

Game clips: YES!

My only suggestion is that you don't use a game clip to KEEP or drag your fish in the water. Unless, of course, you'd like to try your hand at dealing with much, MUCH bigger aquatic animals!

I bonk an stow my rockfish in a pair of soft coolers that I picked up at Bi-Mart.  I put 4 small Gatorade bottles with frozen water in each to keep the temps in check. Also keep the outter shell (black) wet with sea water to keep the evaporation cooling working as well.  They work fine for about 4-5 20" rockfish, but I doubt I'd be happy trying to stuff a big Ling or Cab in one.  I plan to upgrade to a 36" Seattle Sports Catch Cooler soon.

Otherwise the combination of a game clip/stringer, and a wet burlap bag in your tank well work as well.

That's what I use and I LOVE it. I pack it with some re-freezable ice packs(the blue ones you can get at any grocery store) so by the time I'm done fishing for the day, I pull out my fish to clean them and they are nice and cool, even after sitting in the summer sun. I bonk each one and then cut their gills and bleed them right into the bag.
