Love the trampoline!  I've often thought about just using one set of ama/aka on my AI, haven't found the need as yet.  I will be trying to find the materials and an expert sewer to make the trampolines, however.  That just rocks!  I wish I had the connections or sponsors to be able experiment with fittings.  That would be nice.  I have yet to find anyone in my neck of the woods that has an AI and fishes.  I'm still dreaming of a week long san juans sailing/fishing trip.  Someday....

Aloha from Maui!

I've been running for over a year with a 1/2 trampoline on one side for fishing.  Works great keeping my fishing gear next to me, instead of on or behind me.

I hope to rebuild it soon with a built in fish bag, made from a short surfboard bag.

Hey, Bob, Aloha, and welcome to NWKA and the GPNW.  I spend time on Maui at least once a year and keep some shore fishing gear at a friend's place.  Any tips on shore fishing locations would be appreciated.  A have a couple new places to check out in March, the rocks around Makena landing and the point below The Pali highway lookout.  Mahalo.

I personally think he has way too much stuff...but then again he is basically in a pontoon boat so it's probably hard to flip it
After seeing him in a video actually catching fish though I can see that he definitely has the boat set up the way he likes it and he can maneuver around the boat well to land his fish.
Also found it interesting he keeps seeing and catching sharks with the shark shield running...
One day I am gonna get my boat set up like I want it...

Demonick,

I've never fished from shore here, only from the 'yak as I prefer pelagics.  Maybe when you're back here we can scrounge you up a 'yak to fish, kayak or sail with us.  Be careful to check your fish (especially off the pali) for Ciguatera.

Nice setup!  How well does that sail? do you ever sail it?  Is it fairly simple to rig and sail?  Its quite a step up in complexity from what I fish now, but the potential it opens up is intriguing.

It sails GREAT!

I troll while sailing whenever the wind comes up while fishing.  It takes 15-20 min. to rig on a beach or on it's cart at a boat ramp.  We often put people that never have sailed in one and they get the hang of it quickly.  Learning in lighter wind (5-10 knots), if you don't do something right, it just waits for you to correct it, no problems, no dumping, no stress.

They are designed to sail to about 8mph but I (more often than not) break 10mph on each trip with 20 knot gusts.  Sails at about 1/2 the wind speed.  I've been out in over 30 mph wind, 9' swells and 9' wind waves (all not recommended) and the boat held up fine.

If you ever end up on Maui, let me know and we'll set you up to try it. :)

It may not be as fast as a sailboat, but sitting 3" above the water in a kayak sailing 6-8mph feels REAL FAST!

A sail can add so much more range, I usually troll twice as many miles as my fishing partner (keeping in touch by radio).  He has since added a sail to his 'yak.

Maybe I've had to much pumpkin pie but I'm thinking an Adventure Island could have lots of potential off the Oregon coast and in my fishing future.

How close to tuna get off the coast normally?  ;D
I imagine it'd be great for off-shore trolling for coho, and getting back in real quick from halibut territory.

Closest I ever caught tuna out of the PB was 8 miles off the jetty tips of Tillamook bay. That is very uncommon, it was an el nino year, we had them hitting our salmon trolling gear (hootchies).  I think most, if not all years, tuna are just to far away no matter how you slice it with a non mother ship yak.  Halibut and Coho would be another matter and I think the Adventure Island would be wicked effective for covering some miles and getting out to these fish.  How cool would it be to troll for coho under sail power..

Let me know if you get into an AI, PP!  I've had mine for a while now and the sailing components stay in the garage most of the time.  I would lose ALL my WAF points if I made a solo trip that far out to sea.  I would dearly love to do the San Juans on a multi-day trip out of an AI.  I have a set of trampolines in my near future and I'll see what possibilities open up.  Another mod I'm considering is adding a barber hauler so that I can sail downwind.

Thanks for the offer.  I bring my own cig kits, and replace them every year.
