With a federal holiday next Wednesday, and my birthday the day after, I set myself up for a 5 day weekend.  If anyone has any ideas on a good trip or two I'd love to hear it - OR, if anyone has something planned and is looking for company, let me know   :)

If I were you and in your location, I'd hit the SJ's for a little yakfishcamping. Check regs, I have no idea what's open up there right now.

Wish I could join you!

Lee -

I'm on jury duty next week, off on the 11th for sure, but would like to get out into the salt water again - anywhere.  I think rav's trip to the canal Monday is out for me, but I wouldn't mind hitting that area 1 more time this year.  I also wouldn't mind trying some south sound crabbing.

I might be up for somethin' if the weather isn't lookin' too gnarly. Sometimes I get caught in rain and foul weather after i launch, but I will seldom launch a boat into it. Cold driving wind and rain is never fun to be in, no matter how well you are dressed. I can fish all day in lighter winds, intermittent rain or drizzle, though.  Depends on how hot the fishing is.

Hmmm, if I had that much time I'd look at Lake lenore for big Lahontan cutts (as big as some steelhead :o), or Banks for walleyes, or Rufus for big triploids (and maybe a rare walleye), or the Columbia/Methow for steelhead....too many choices and not enough time. :'(

I lived in Olympia for a few years, and never did well for dungeness crab in the South Sound.

Yeah, I'm not coming across and info. suggesting South sound is any good for crab, except for the occasional reference to the N. estuary.  Would hit this area because it is close.  Maybe I should try out west toward gray's harbor?

At least chums are within a reasonable day trip for me.

ps: sorry to hijack

who was just told me , forget the nasty delta area... since the dikes came down and they've re-engineered back to nature, not much of anything is working or biting there right now..?? wonder if that also applies to crab as well?

That would have been me. Still lots of fresh crab shells on the shore, and pots in the usual locations. I just haven't seen fish since the dikes came out. Normally you see dozens of flounder scooting around in the shallows, but the last couple of times out I've not seen anything to include bait and sculpin.

understand what you are saying, but impatience seems to be a very common commodity there :banjo:

I see a positive outcome, just not tomorrow. The new estuary sees a huge exchange of water with every tide change. You can really see it as you pass over I-5 McAllister Creek bridge at high tide.

Lots of great suggestions guys.  Anyone up for going on one of those suggestions?  Except the crabbing, I don't do crab.   :sad3:

Let me know what your plans are, and I'm game for either the 14th or 15th. Chums should be showing up in the Nis any day now ;)
