Definitely a little late on the report, but Spot and I hit the Nestucca River this past Sunday for a shot at some early winter steelhead and late fall chinook. This was also my test run for my new anchor arm for my Mini-X fabricated by INSAYN. We were on the water by around 8am and off the water by around 3pm. We fished a number of holes and threw plenty of different setups, but didn't get any love. There were plenty of people on the river and while asking around, it didn't seem like many boats were catching fish at all. There were reports of a couple steelhead here and a chinook there, but overall it seemed like a pretty quiet day. I did get a lot of use out of the new drift anchor arm and it works amazing! I most certainly need a jam cleat though because the system I was using to secure the anchor line was so pathetic I don't even want to explain how it worked.  ::)

Spot: "Where's your jam cleat? How are you going to...?"

yaknitup: "OOOoooo! Check this out!" (runs off to grab anchor line and line securing system) "See, here's how it works. This hooks up here, and the line goes through here, and then it's fastened with this here. Pretty slick, huh?"

Spot: "Yeah, pretty cool... I guess. .... ... Keep your knife handy."

The weather was for sure the highlight of this trip. It was GORGEOUS! I was actually worried that I didn't put on sunscreen! So even though we didn't hook up, it felt great to be out on the river to soak up such amazing weather for this time of year.

Spot with his game face on!

Great pics. sure looks like a beauty of a river to float and looks like the water was primo. My guess from the report on the Sky was they put in around Gold Bar and drifted to Sultan. A much more technical drift done at a still heavy cfm. Got to get down your way someday to try the salt or maybe a river or two. Until then.

Fishing sucked....again....but what a beautiful float!!!  I finally got a chance to float the one section I'd never done and the weather was unbelievably warm and sunny.

Thanks for posting the pics!  We need to hit it again for Steelhead soon.

Beautiful weather and a nice looking river there. Too bad the fish couldn't cooperate. I have a feeling this'll be the first of many reports from that stretch of water..

Thats a great stretch of water for steelhead latter in the year.  Bummer you didn't find any fish, its only going to get better for steelhead.  Glad you found some good weather and had a great float.  How did the Mini X handle?

The Mini-X handled like a dream. It's perfect for the rivers as far as I can tell. It is very maneuverable, plenty of room for storage and pretty darn stable too for how small it is (I'm still getting used to it as opposed to my X-Factor ::) ). I got spun out a couple of times  when I hit a back eddy after shooting through some faster water so I had to make sure I saw it coming so I could leaned the right way. I haven't had a chance to see how it feels while I'm wrestling a big fish right next to it, but I welcome the chance to give it a shot! ;D

Cool beans!  Looks like we got the pulley angle setup just right.
Looks like it's time to paint it.   :icon_thumright:

Too bad the fish didn't wanna play.  :'(
