Just ordered a OK Caper Angler, scupper stoppers  & AT Straight Shaft T4E paddle from Austin Kayaks.

It was on close out because the color (Mango) has been discontinued. The package was $778.52 shipped.

I went with the Caper because it fit the budget & I will be using mostly on Cowlitiz River inlet of Lake Mayfield. Hopefully it is large enough to salmon fish off Point Solo this spring.

Nice. @ 11' long distance paddles may prove to be a chore, but I would imagine her to be a great boat for what you described. I'll return from overseas mid-end of May. Shoot me a PM whenever you are heading out solo point way, and I'll join you whenever life allows.

Cool, will get together when you get back.

The fish I caught there were only around 100 yds off shore.

Congrats, Hendog.

The Caper has been around for a long time. Kind of bare-bones, minimalist compared to a lot of the boats out there these days. Not a lot of storage, but then it doesn't weigh much, either.

I disagree with Spot- you'll be able to go plenty far, as long as you're not in a hurry. :P

It seems most here fish salt water. I fish fresh water most of the time because I own a home on a lake, so not in a hurry to go anywhere real fast.

I catch lots of trout, salmon, and yellow perch, but when the weather warms up, I gotta get one of them Lake Mayfield tiger Muskeys.

Is that the east end of the lake?  Ever fish Riffe Lake?

The Cowlitz inlet is on the east end. I have not fished Riffe, but the local bait shop says it has the best small mouth fishing on the west side of state.

I am definitely going to fish Swoford Pond this spring. The locals tell me it is great for Large Mouth & Catfish and it is a non-power boat lake.

I am also going to order a OK Malibu 2XL so we can do family outings.

Don't let anyone tell you the Caper isn't a great kayak.  I still have one and paddle it all the time.  I even choose to paddle it over my Trident 13 for many applications.

I bought a used caper for 350 from a guy inNCKA down here because I couldnt quite scrape the dough together to buy a new T-11. I wanted to use it primarily for river fishing as it is manueverable and light. The only thing I dont like about it is the fact that the cockpit is a wet ride. Keeping some small amount of tackle and roe in the cup holder is impossible due to the fact it is full of water all the time. Although on a positive note the first time I used it in the Russian River down here I caught and landed a wild 30 inch hen steelie. So I think you are gold until you decide otherwise. Good luck and have fun.
