Finally somewhat settled after moving back to OR (why oh why did I ever leave the PNW?) and looking to maybe crab this weekend.  Anybody been out lately or have recommendations for a non-open ocean (assuming too rough) crabbing destination for the weekend?  Netarts maybe?

Welcome back Bigdood.  I kayak-crabbed Netarts a few months ago and it was a good place for a kayaker.  To the north of the boat launch a hundred yards or so is a dock you can use to stage and launch, and its in a protected basin.  We crabbed near the PB boat launch and south along the rocky wall and had pretty good luck.  And there are a couple of places just up the street with boiling stations so you can cook your catch when you are done.  Good luck.

I would second the recommendation for Netarts being kayak friendly. Crabbing can be better out towards the mouth, as long as you head back before the tide starts heading out. Sand Lake, just north of PC, is a good place to take a kayak also. The crabbing can be hit or miss, but there are lots of canals and sloughs to explore while your pots are soaking. You can launch and drop pots at Whalen Island right by the bridge, or you can go into Sand Lake Rec area and put in there and crab by the mouth. And dragging some bait along the bottom just might bring up some perch or a flounder or two.

I am so going to be trying doing that, this year.
