I'm being flown to Georgia in March to compete in the 2010 Georgia Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail! :banjo: ;D  I won't be doing the whole tournament, but I will be at the first event on Lake Harding.

Too excited!

Its a HUGE place, I've got some homework to do

Good for you... Looks like the event will be supporting some good causes.

What will you be fishing for?

Have fun and I hope you do well!

The Harding tourney is targetting White/Stripe/Hybrid Bass, Black Bass and Catfish.  Oddly enough they're not including LMB.

Stripers get way bigger than LMB.  Taste better too.

"being flown to Georgia" ... more details?   >:D

Hey ... is that close enough for fellow NWKA'ers, Fishesfromtupperware or YakontheFly, to join you on TEAM NWKA?

I'll be going to join Team YakAngler.com, who's paying for my trip for this first event, and one of the tour sponsors.  After talking with my wife, I might actually be able to do a couple of the events!  Sadly, it's actually cheaper for me to do the whole series than it would be to go to Alaska for a week (and gain AOTY points) :(

Pole,
that first event is just outside of Columbus.. say about 8-9 hours each way for both Wali and Troy. [ the 3 of us talked about a hook up last year when i was there at Fort Benning]

Issac, you're gonna love that area. great mild climate, cost of living is reasonable, the food, and the people are terrific and Lake Harding is an almost perfect venue to kick off something like that.

a word of warning, tho. it's local tradition in the Columbus area for families to dine out on Friday or Saturday or both. so be prepared for crowds at eateries. Sunday morning, brunch is a big deal, and you'll see Sunday schoolers, and Sunday Bests side by side over a table.

Thanks for the word of warning.  I'll see what I can do to avoid the crowds.  Still need to make accommodation arrangements, but thinking I'll end up camping at the Lake for the weekend.  Give myself to get some time on the water before the tournament and see if I can learn anything.  The location and the fishery are both new to me.  Stripers have been on my list of "much catch" fish since I first heard of Kayak Kevin. I know these won't be as big as the sea run stripers, it'll still be nice to put a check mark on one of the fish on my list.

Black Bass are Largemouth, Smallmouth, Shoal and several other subspecies of bass down here..

So, yes, Largemouth Bass are one of the target species.

As for travelling to that lake...  9 hours to fish fresh water, when I can travel the same distance to Florida and fish for Snook, Tarpon, Bonefish, King Mackerel, Redfish, Seatrout, Spanish Mackerel, Permit and Jacks...  Guess where I am going.  :-p

Especially when, if the salt fishing is off, I can target Tilapia, Peacock Bass or Grasscarp (On a flyrod) in the Canals.

The Only real Freshwater fishing I do any more, is flyfishing for Trout, unless I have no other option.

Hey now, I've got that much into flying time, plus the drive! And I'll be missing out on Springers.

Having a TOUGH time finding bait shops in the area. course, it is in godscountry where the interwebs are probably considered evil. I did find references to a couple shops on the lake, but nothing more than references.  trying to figure out if I'll have live shad to fish with or not

Are you planning to do a pod cast while you're out there fishing?

springers are around for a long season.. you have plenty of time for both!  As days get longer the evening/after work fishing is worth the effort..

I'm definitely going to try.  Doesn't look like service coverage is that great though.  At the very least I can shoot and then upload.  Won't be live, but Almost Live (i miss that show)

Tourney is tomorrow. We got here yeasterday to find chocolate milk for water. Today the dams were open today making for some fast, 5mph currents in the main channel and what should have been slack flats were running too. Not much can be done about the water clarity, but hopefully they get the damns shut down so the water will be more user friendly for me in the Trident 11.
