The dates are set for our 2010 San Juan Islands kayak fishing trip! We'll meet at West Beach Resort on Orcas Island, on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 9 AM. We'll pack boats, get geared up and paddle an easy 7 miles with the current to Jones Island, where we'll establish base camp for the next few days.

There's great fishing 100 ft from the camp site, but on average we'll paddle 2-5 miles a day exploring the islands as we hunt for lingcod, cabezon, greenling, and other bottom fish while enjoying the beautiful San Juan Islands.

Learn navigation, boat handling, tide/current/wind management, boat packing, kayak fishing techniques, as well as safety/rescue/towing, and group management skills. There's even opportunity to practice capsize and re-entry, all under the auspice of Alder Creek's guides and coaches.

We'll paddle back with the tide to West Beach Resort on Sunday, June 6th

The price is $650/person, and includes all meals, guides, kayaks (sit in, sit on, or tandem), and kayak gear (wet suit/dry suit, PFD, paddle, spray skirt, gloves, booties, etc.). Transportation, fishing license, rod, reel, tackle, camping gear, and personal items are not included. I will provide a fishing gear/tackle needs list when you book your trip so you'll have some recommendations to help you chose the right tackle. I will have a few extra rods & reels and extra line, tackle, & lures/jigs for back up, but you should plan on using your own stuff.

Basic kayaking skills are required, and is very flexible. This is a learning trip, and we can teach as we go. If you're not sure if you have the required skills, feel free to call the shop at 503-285-0464, or PM me to see what we can work out to get you ready to go!

Custom trips are available. Call with questions or to book your trip.

Looking forward to it!

-Jason

Jason, very helpful information!  Can't make June, however am very interested in the August - September San Juans trip. The price, the length of time, the agenda, and professionalism, all are great!  No doubt your participants will learn lots and have lots of fun! holt

Holt-

the July & August SJ trips will be more sea kayak touring. You're more than welcome to fish, but it won't be the focus of the two latter trips....sea kayaking skills will be....and lingcod season is done by then....it's into salmon which is cool, but a bit more challenging.

same basic skills/learn as you go type of deal, but SOT's aren't an option on those trips.

Just want to make sure you're aware of the difference, and I hope to see you on one of those trips!

Holt-

Ling season for marine area 7 is 5/1-6/15. I was looking for the best current options for that time period, and came up with two 4 day periods that would work for current.

I decided to push the trip as late in the season as I could so we could have better weather and conditions. There's potential for high winds and bad weather in May, and I don't think I can fill two trips, so I decided to opt for the better weather option. June will be more conducive for clients the are new to the sport.

The other problem is my school. The June trip is scheduled during dead week for me. I take finals Monday 6/7 the morning after we return....That's going to be challenging enough for me without taking a week in the middle of the semester like a May trip would.

All that being said, I only need 4 people to make this trip happen, and I will more than likely be able to do whatever dates you would like, as long as it's not during finals! We could do a custom/private trip.

HBH- I'm jealous of your permanent location. This trip wouldn't change much for you except that I would be doing the cooking and cleaning, and retying your gear when you snag :)

I might have to head up that way for the opener. I could get away with 2 maybe 3 days. I'd probably paddle up from Orcas to Sucia. I'll be easy to spot :)

If I make it up, we should have a beer.

Jason, I'll send the balance in Monday. Am excited about this guided San Juan Angling trip June 2-6, the price is excellent $520.00 with the discount. Sure like it that the food is provided as well.  I hope that you get at least one more person. Looking forward to learning lots, having tons of fun fishing and being in the beautiful San Juan's. Will be bringing my Revo, even though you supply the yak if needed.  I have all the camping gear. Received my tee pee this week with the wood burning stove -just tested it and all works great, warmth in the rain is very appealing.
