It's my first time fishing it I know it a bit early for trout but I thought I would scope it out anyway.
Washington State Fishing Guide 9th Edition states: OFFUT LAKE "This is a fishermans lake. A 5 mph speed limit keeps out the play boat riffraff and one of the last trout lake resorts in the region caters to anglers and campers. Husky trout from Mar, and Apr. plans of rainbows and 14" cutthroat, plus rainbow fry. Exceptional number of large holdovers that are weighed by the pound. This 192 acre lake is 25 feet deep and trout fishing holds up well into June, recovers nicely in Sept. and Oct. and surprisingly can delver good action in midwinter. Mid summer is for perch, brown bullhead and above average largemouth bass action with bucketmouths to 5 lbs. Illegally stocked smallmouth are also gaining a foothold and fish in the 3 lb range are not uncommon. Troll, Stillfish, or throw a fly, theres something for everyone to target!

SwiftDraw this looks like a really nice offseason fishing lake.  I won't be able to go this week but might just post a trip a little later, but before the general season starts up-- so let us know how you do-- bet there are others that will be interested as well.  ;)

I don't think there's a state campground, but there's a WDFW boat launch on the other side of the lake from the resort. I rowed a pram out from there once, but didn't have a lot of time to fish then. I fished the weeds along the shoreline out and across to the left of the boat launch for a short while, working the lilly pads with a big, bushy dry fly, and caught a nice Bluegill.

I want to go back. Maybe I'll see you there, unless I get shanghai'd into a river float for steelhead.  I am "on call" for that already! I'm gonna try to get in a hour of surf casting for red tails this morning. I found a good big hole right next to the beach yesterday evening. Too much water....so little time! Life's a beach!

You know things are getting squirrelly when you have to consider simplifying your fishing!

Ankle/tendon much better...no swelling, and pain all gone. Immediate attention with RICE  (rest, ice, compression, elevation) does it. Lots of icing it, with foot and leg elevated on a cushion, and taking the anti-inflammatories did the trick.

Was thinking of hitting up a lake tomorrow for trout fishing, but one a little closer. Offut is a better lake than the one I had in mind, though, although its shoreline is more developed than I usually like. I usually prefer to fish lakes with little or no development along their shorelines. There are still a few good ones out there.

The day is shaping up rather nicely for hitting the beach, with 5 foot swell, bluebird skies, and offshore winds. Gotta go hit it! I met a guy the other day who had an inoperable brain tumor, and had just moved here to live out his final days. No time to waste! Laters!

After watching the video, that lake would make a cool place for a "Washington Fresh Water Kayak Fishing Derby".   :icon_thumleft:

Glad your doing better. I'll look for you but if you end up doing something else no worries!
What other lakes do you like in that area? I would love to look them over.

I tried my luck on Offut Lake this Friday and Saturday morning. Started fishing after setting up camp around 11am.  My plain troll a small Dick Night spoon in white and orange as well a 1/8th black and gold Rooster Tail deep while exploring the lake. The deepest was 25 feet. I did meter fish but no takers.  I met Holt on my way in for lunch and enjoyed talking with him he sure has a nice set-up! I spent the rest of the afternoon with my daughter and decided to try again Saturday.
Saturday morning temperature was about 28 degrees the lake was glass with the red sun rise and Mt Rainer in all its glory it was a beautiful day. I decided to change up my tactics and switch to Trout Power Bait and Gulp Night Crawlers Slowly trolled again for no takers.
All in All it was a great trip!!
Still paying my dues for that first fish in my yak…. But I know its coming!!

Swiftdraw, nice to meet you. You really did a nice job on your fiberglass rod pod cover, especially never having worked with fiberglass before.  Also your FF sender install in closed foam is cool.  You inspired me!  How was the camping at Offut. Am thinking that I may use Offut as my first crack at the "wilderness" packing/camping/peddaling for the Revo. Safety in numbers, plus fishing should be better in a few weeks.

I took my girls to the fishing dock Saturday around 4pm.  No bites or anything, but they had a good time.  Launching from the 'resort' would be... well it wouldn't be fun.  There is a WDFW launch on the north side of the lake.
