Its not too early for the trout bite.  I did catch a 24" rainbow less than 3 weeks ago in American Lake   ;)

If it's cold, and you'll have sun that day, don't go out first thing in the morning.  Give the sun time to warm the shallows, then troll the top 5 feet of water (the big predators usually hide just under the convergence zone or near shore where they can find active baitfish).  Focus on the side of the lake that the wind last blew all the food to.

I'm sure there are other opinions, theories, techniques, etc., but that worked well for me.

Thanks Lee

I'd like to join you all, but I suddenly have less time for fishing trips. My 89 year-old Mom fell and broke her hip last weekend, and I have to go back and be with them. Mom is now in a Rehab/Care place getting the medical attention she needs. I was just up there, and had to return home for the weekend. I needed to return here so that I can take advantage of the predicted decent weather here tomorrow and Monday and get some stuff done. Then I'm back up to visit Mom and help my Dad, who is nearly overwhelmed by all this.

I'm hoping to still hit the Ling opener here on Mar 13th, weather permitting.

SURE LOOKS LIKE TODAY MONDAY is better weather day, if anyone thinking of going Tuesday would rather go today Monday 3/1, I encourage you to do so.  Am unable to change due to the work schedule. If the wind is high Tuesday, I'll likely bag it. holt

Yea, see you then. I have plenty for us of Gulp saltwater sand worms - camo, natural, and brown/blu/flk.  Am ready for some blood in the boat other than mine!  Looking forward to it FT.

Tom drove the 75 miles and we launched. Most of the day was enjoying the opportunity to deal with the 13' tide swing and a wind out of the south in the afternoon that sure challenged the return, until we got closer to the launch site.  Good learning day.  No fish or bites. Holt learned the reason that the manufacturer encorages the dry suit user to zip all the way to the end  ::)
Tom thanks for the coaching!    holt

Great day at the onset.  Nearly smooth as glass, temps just about right for paddling, no rain.  We just did get positioned over our target underwater ridge, made one 3 to 5 minute drift over top of it, and then... FWOOMP!  The wind came up with a vengence.  Not a sudden gust and then settle down, but straight from near dead calm to maybe 15 mph sustained wind right out of our launch direction.

We scooted over to the beach (Anderson Island) to tie on some heavier weights and get out some wind protection clothing (me that is, Holt had his dry suit on the whole time) and "recconnoiter".  We looked out, back towards the launch site and there were white caps all across the delta by then, especially on our side of the channel.  So we decided that we'd probably better get back to the safe side of the bay while we still had a lot of time to work with.  That first 1/4 to 1/2 mile (of a 2 mi. crossing) was HARD won.

There was a LOT less wind once we were within maybe 1/2 mile from Luhr's Beach, so we tried to fish for a while on that side.  But the big tide change together with the river current to the west and wind to the east made it way tough to get anything to the bottom, even in only 50'.  So we hung it up for the day fairly early.  The good news was probably that it didn't start raining much until just after all the gear was put away.  GREAT exercise though.  And I'd bet money that the underwater ridge will hold flatfish if we can just slow our drift down a lot more than today.
