I just mounted a flush mount Scotty base just forward of the mesh on the gunnel of my revo. I am thinking to put either a scotty extension + the scotty rod holder  OR the Ram adapter and ram tube. I plan to do a lot of trolling. Any thoughts as to which would be better?

They're both good. I use Scotty stuff, but the RAM stuff gives a little better/easier range of motion with the ball joint vs. the Scotty "stick & click". Only thing I don't like about RAM is the spring loaded adjuster. More than once while adjusting, I loosened one turn to many and the assembly explodes with the spring. I could see myself launching pieces into the drink.

If you like Scotty one thing you'll have to do is get a long extension to get your rod above your knees. Since you're pedaling your knees are gonna be moving around and if it's too low you'll be hitting your rod a lot. RAM works ok as is but a little low. RAM rod holders can also slip if you have a lot of tension on your line so I like Scotty for that. But when it comes to FF mounts, RAM is hard to beat.

I've recently outfitted my cockpit with RAM mounts(I'll get some pics up soon). They're spendy for sure, but I really like the range of motion they provide. As stated above, use caution when loosening them. Only loosen them just enough to get the motion you need. I still use Scotty for my Mini-X so I guess I could say that I like them both. I personally feel though that if you're going to go with Scotty, adjustable extender arm #459 ( http://www.scotty.com/fishing-gear-equipment/rod-holders/rod-holder-extenders.htm ). I really like the range of motion this arm provides.
Nice pics Zee! Those are really helpfull.

Zee-- Do you use the 8 1/2" scotty extender? I was thinking to go by your post re trolling and have the rod on the left going across to hook up to the rigger on the right--but I can see that I'm going to have to go up to avoid my knees. The ram I had in mind was the rocket launcher tube.

BTW--I had to abort a halibut trip in my power boat this morning--my motor would not start--and this is after just having it tuned up. :( I told my fishing partner (who is skeptical of my foray into kayak fishing) "This won't be happening when I get my kayak rigged!

Yep, that's the one.

I'd avoid using the rocket launcher for heavier trolling since the RAM mounts tend to slip when under greater pressure.

I agree with Zee on the tube-style. The rod & reel setup I use mostly for lings & rockfish in deeper water is a Diawa sealine reel and a Okuma Convector rod. It is on the heavy side and so I really have to crank that rod holder down to get it to hold when I'm trolling with that rod. That, or I have to adjust the rod holder in a way that puts the reel centered over the ball so that the weight is more balanced(it's the Revolution style so it has that extra adjustment feature). If all of your rod setups are pretty lightweight, you may not have that issue. Otherwise, I would suggest going with the style shown in Zee's pics above. It distributes the weight of the setup more effectively.

Thanks gentlemen--that answers my questions--for now! I will get a Scotty extension which is easier to get in this town than ram products.
