My day was slow, wet and cold.   But!  I was out there and not at work (had the day off anyways).  :-\

Trolling wasn't the thing to do, as it was lousy for just about everyone I talk to out there.  The trick was to anchor in 30' or less and bottom fish with Power Bait floating just off bottom.   I didn't feel like sitting still, as it was pretty chilly out, and me keeping my arms busy paddling, kept me warm enough to stay out there.

I landed two miserable looking trout on a wet fly trolled 100 ft back, that barely had any fight in them at all.  I kept them both, as my son loves trout and would give me the stink eye if I came home empty handed knowing I had actually caught something.

On my way home, I stopped at the Lake Store to get some munchies and this guy comes in with a lunker of a LMB.  He said he was trout fishing off Sain Creek arm from the bank doing pretty well.  On one of his retrievals with a small 8-9" trout in tow, he saw the trout jump once, and disappeared and got really heavy.  Said there was no fight, just dead weight till he got it to the bank.  Big LMB swallowed his trout head first, dislodging the hook from the trout and catching the bass in the lip.

The store weighed it at a tad over 5.5lbs.

Now I see em!!!!

That Bass story is epic.  Love the tail shot of the trout!

BTW: I noticed that a lot of the trout at Hagg this year are covered in sores?!?!?  :-X What's up with that?  Brian?  We could use the skills of your avocation here.  :)

The Florida strain largemouth bass in the San Diego County reservoirs eat the small rainbows that are stocked over the winter. This trout diet has resulted in 20lb+ largemouth bass; including a foul hooked 25 pounder caught in a lake you can throw a rock across.
The "Castaic" swim bait is named after Castaic Lake in Los Angeles County.
