I pulled my kayak and Wheeleez cart out this morning to do a photo walk through the process.  Hope it helps someone out when packing this huge cart into the front hatch of the T-13.

Slide one set of pads close together, and the others away from each other to get the cart to close tighter.

Flip the cart over with the kickstand facing out, and feed one axle in towards the stern.

Now slide the cart all the way foward at possible one side of the hull.

Now remove the valve stem.  If doing this on sand, ya may want to remove the stem over the hatch cover laid upside down in the sand.

Using my knee I push out as much air as I can.

Reinstall the valve stem.  Again ya may want to be doing this over the hatch lid so ya don't loose the stem in the sand.

Now cram that sucker in on the same side as the cart, and push it way back there.

I mean WAYYYYY back there.

Time for the second wheel.

At this point there is plenty of room to just toss it in full of air.

And add a dry bag of goods.

Or go ahead and remove the stem, and press out the air like the other wheel.

Without the addition of the flush mount rod holder, this wheel will easily go back as far as the other wheel did.

Now there is still tons of room in the hatch for a couple of dry bags or other gear.

Yep its all in there. I think this shot shows the cart, and both wheels behind the two bags.

Oh, and before I forget...here is the tiny bike pump I use.  It actually pumps air in both the "push" and "pull" directions.

I'm just jealous. I spent a hundred bucks on my own design, with wheels I purchased from Lowes at .5" dia axle. I have a bent shaft cause my hull is too heavy...rim shot... make up your own lame bent shaft joke (but anything along the lines about stop screwing around corners has been thought of).

Next Adventure has wheeleez carts for $89 (the smaller sand wheel size).  At least they did a couple weks ago.  They advised they were selling them at that price until they ran out.  They also work great in mud.

Nice tutorial Insayn.

Insayn I must say you have helped me with many of your Ideas.
Thanks to you I have an anchor pulley system complete with anchor weight, all made by you.
Also I ventured out and made a rod pod lid with the help of your very informative tutorial.
I also will be taking your advice in how to pack the large Wheeleez cart and Wheels into my T-13A Kayak!!

You’re the Man…
Much Thanks!!!

If you never access the front hatch on the water, you can lash the frame of the cart over the hatch cover and then there is no need to deflate the tires.

Dom, are you lashing the frame with the tires on, or just the frame?

The only time I really need to go through the minor effort to stuff it all in the hull is for surf launches.  I wouldn't want anything like this above deck going through "the zone".   And, in most cases, I can see myself only needing to deflate one tire, to get the job done.  The trick with quick reinflating, is to again remove the valve stem and massage the tire into it's normal basic shape as it naturally fills itself with air.  Then reinstall the valve stem, and give it a few pumps from the bike pump to get some pressure, and your done.

Just the frame.  I got some short adjustable bungies.  The free end threads through a hole in the "cinch", then pulls down into a cleat.   I just loop the bungie around the deck line mount points on either side of the hatch.  For frequent surf launches you may want to replace the deck line mount points with pad eyes to create a more secure lash point.

I have the same issue on the Revo.  The Wheelez wheels fit, but the frame does not, so it will be lashed to the deck.  Unfortunately, from the factory the Revo has no deck lines nor lash points forward of the mirage drive.  I'll be rigging a cross-hatch bungie system on the bow.

Any reason you don't just walk your wheels back up to the car?  I've never put my wheels in my yak, never even really thought about it.

Me either... If it isn't worth the effort to walk them back to the car I use a lite weight cable lock and lock the cart to something heavy (driftwood, tree, etc).  If I am far away the crowds I don't even bother to lock it up, just stash it out of sight..

Let me clarify my above statement.

The only surf launch that I have bothered to pack the entire cart into the hull was after walking 2 miles up the beach away from the truck. And on that particular day, Yaknitup and I weren't sure if we were going to beach it in the same place we launched from so we packed our carts with us.  He was chasing salmon, and we could easily have ended up back at the truck 2 miles south of where we launched from.

Usually I drive my truck right to the water and launch it without the need of a cart at all.  And I most certainly will walk the cart back to the truck if I have the opportunity.  I can't see myself taking the cart with me on too many occasions, let alone strapped on deck, thus my reason to go ahead and deflate at least one tire to make it fit if I need to take the cart with me.

I posted this originally on NCKA as there was some chatter on where and how to pack the big wheels.  I went ahead and put together the "How I did it", and then figured someone here might want to see it done if they ever wondered if it was possible.   8)

That was a (another) great tut Insayn. Thanks again. I have not sprung for the fat wheeleeze yet (it ain't easy being cheap), and I was wondering how hard it would be to deflate and stuff them in the hatch.

I really like a flush deck with as little as possible sticking up to catch my line.  It also makes it slightly harder to donate it to the deep. damhik

Ahhhhhh, maybe I'm too lazy to walk the 1/2 mile or so back to the truck which is why I used the cart in the first place? Also, its kinda hard to get a chain to hold around sand.  ;D

FFTW, I hear ya on the line snagging due to items on deck.  I had issues with my silly toggles at each end of the yak.  Ditched them, and made my own that work like the side handles.  No more line snags.  8)
