Look at the whale's baleen reflection, a straight line, aligned perfectly with the actual baleen.  We should be seeing a similar reflection for the kayaker and we are not.

Despite the churning water the kayak is perfectly upright.

I would also expect an easily seen reflection of the yellow paddle blade.

What do you think now, CBY?

Kind of a wrong place, wrong time thing.

that is so totally fake. I saw it on Sea Kayaker Magazines facebook page, and they acknowledge it's fakeness.

If I were behind taking a picture, you can bet I would be taking more than one. Therefore, if this were a real event, I would think there would be several more photos of the aftermath circulating around the net as well. Just my 2 cents.

If you or me were behind we would've dropped the camera, peed our pants, and then started picking up the pieces of our buddies broken body after 15 tons of wale slapped him around :)

that guy looks like he's about to capsize just from his forward stroke. I highly doubt someone that unskilled would just sit there and not even look to the side to see the giant wale mouth closing around them. There would be a total look of fear, the guy would be jumping out of his boat to get away, not just chilling waiting to be swallowed.

That's not how my body language reads when I've been surprised and am facing death and dismemberment. You would be able to read "oh sh*t!" from my body language, not "what a lovely day."

The part that I think is REALLY funny is the idea that so many are compelled to examine the picture so carefully to make a decision as to whether it's fake or not and then to point to all the technical minutia to back their case.   ;D

Anyone can see clearly with just a glance that it's as real as any one of my own many fish tales...   end of story.   ;)

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

Geez, two pages of debate, and all you guys had to do was ask . It's not me, so it is clearly a fake. Best to leave the real thing to professionals like myself. 8)

Just curious!
Are winters really that cold and long up north
This is what is discussed for 2 pages - and there is still a question about it's legitimacy
Just kidding - Cool pic.

Technically winter is the same length across the globe.  However it is dark a lot "up north".

At 45N (Seattle-ish) shortest days of the year are about 8.6 hours.  The longest about 15.4 hours.

Seattle's average daily high temp in December-January is about 45F.

At 60N (Juneau-ish, Anchorage-ish) shortest days are about 5.6 hours, and the longest about 17.1 hours.

Anchorage's average daily high temp in December-January is about 22F
