I'm a newbe to NWKA but I've been a guest for around six months. I haven't seen anything on fishing out of Brookings? It seems to look like one of the safest harbors to get out of. Since I live just outside of Grants Pass it's the closest
place for me to go. I wouldn't go until I get a SOT yak. Right now I have a 14'
sik pungo. How is the fishing out of the Brookings area for bottom fish?

 ;D ;D ;D
Your are absolutely right about the easy to get out part. And just to the north of the Mouth a few yards lay some easy to fish rocks. A great place for a "first time on the Salt" trip.
Give me a holler when you get ready to go...I'll try to get out with you.
I have the use of the Yacht Club docks, so it is very easy in and out. Not to mention a hot shower and cold Fosters on tap at the ClubHouse when we finish fishin'.
 Hope to see ya soon!

Sounds good. I'll bring my 5th wheel so I can stay a couple of days. My wife just had a hip replacement so it will be a few weeks. Thanks for the reply.

My dad lives in Brookings, has my old Boston Whaler in the harbor. Easy launch nice place to fish, watch for the waves at the bar. Just paddle out of the harbor and head north to Chetco Cove, Walrus Rock, Guano Rock...BUT, if you can handle a beach launch, launch at Macklyn Cove and fish the same water with an easier paddle and you can stay out of the wind there somewhere.

Yes, Macklyn is an easy launch behind a large rock, no need to bust waves their either!
A favorite haunt for a local pair of Osprey's, had the poop scared out of me one day when one of them dove into the water just 10' from the Yak.
Also a good place to drop crab traps ;D
