Jay,
Oh Yeah?? a lefty? will be looking that one up.

I am really looking hard at the Diawa Saltist, the blue one, in either the smalller or medium size. dont care about it being a single speed reel. wouldnt knwo what to do with two gears since have never ever useded one. since it wouldnt get used more than 2-3 times a year anyway, (current gear useage and salt trips factored in) this thing would last me and who ever i handed it over to when i'm too old to fish at least both our lifetimes.

but, the Saltist doesnt come in a lefty model right now.
If you're interested and around, I'm ready to part ways with it. It is a great reel, especially for offshore on the kayak. However, I really prefer the round reels and I've been educating my thumb!

yeh, funny that. when i clear out of where i am now, i get to go to that garden spot of cross border brotherhood, el paso. doubtful we'd cross paths any time soon.

thinking about the gear i've amassed since i started fishing in the lower sound area, and there's a lot of round reels involved. wonder how that happened?, I'm mainly a fly rodder.

ok, slightly off the track but.................

why can't i find a reel in the sizes you're talking about in a left hand model? everything i've found is right handed and thats just plain akward for me.

The Avet come in left or right and your choice of colors!   (bling bling bling bling bling bling bling bling)
ooouu shiney!

From my research...unless you want to pay a hefty upcharge, the leftys are only available in silver. That's ok with me but others???

My Avet is purple---wowie!   NExt one is gonna be the candy-apple red from Charkbait. Silver is boring!

I did the teardown and grease-up thing, the freespool now spins for more than 2 minutes!!!

Okay, well I settled for the revo inshore paired with the okuma cedros jigging rod.  Used it for the ORC2010, and this last shot out at PC.  I like the combo, but I think that I am going to bump up to the revo toro, and move the inshore to a lighter casting rod like the Abu Garcia Vendetta. Plenty of available drag, nice compact size, and easy take down.

My biggest concern right now is the fact that I have to lash the rod to the boat on the way out from the beach, since a one piece rod is not going to fit inside the Outback. I guess the trick is to just not huli.

On a side note, the cedros is a nice rod - a bit spendy, but it has a heck of a reel seat, as well as being a good length for manipulating things around the kayak.  The butt end works well with an underarm tuck while jigging, and the color scheme is pretty fly.

Or get an OK Trident  :) With the rod pod you can store a one piece 8 ft rod below deck with no problems.  Plus you don't have to worry about loosing your mirage drive in the surf.   ;)

Or that...
I had an 8'10" "only if i really need it" backup rod in my T15 at the ORC.  I also had my 8'6" fly rod in the yellow T11 that my wife paddled around in back at camp.

Well, I was hoping to win one the other day, but another Hobie driver happened to win it. :D

Question for the Avet owners. Do you need the narrow foot option? It shows it as an accessory on the Charkbait site.

Some of the Fuji trigger grips are pretty narrow (on Loomis rods in particular) and the smaller foot you can get from Charkbait or Avet works well for those. I haven't had a problem with most saltwater reel seats.

My Avets don't fit on a size 17 reel seat.  They do fit a size 18.  It's not just the Avets.  I got a few older Pro Gear reels that don't fit the 17's.  Shimano Toriums don't either.  The list goes on and on.  Why don't rod manufacturers just use a size 18 on their saltwater rods?  Never had a problem with those.
